Marathon - Mac OS (in the days of the 68K Macs)

...and even further back the Zork trilogy - spent quite a while playing those

Tenchu: Stealth Assassin (PS1) - awesome game, forced me to learn a new stealthy approach instead of normal twitchy rambo approach. The voice acting was classic!

Think we have come along way since that now Spook,if you played that now it would in all honesty be laughable..

But i can what you mean at the time as i also owned the game myself,i mean Goldeneye was a classic but am i interested now..........Not on your nellie ?

No, no. Not laughable, no. Okay, the graphics and draw distance are pretty primitive by today's standards but the game design is still good. The voice acting is crazy as hell and all the better for it!

Have a look at this super low res video for a trip down nostalgia avenue. Brings a tear to my eye.

Well, I'm surprised I never noticed how badly drawn and rough the characters were. They are pretty awful to look at now.

However, the third person camera angle was so messed up you get headaches watching that. It was truly terrible and made the game so much harder.

But it was still an awesome game for the time. I wonder what score it got back then? Hmm...

I cant believe nobody has mentioned Bomberman or Sensible Soccer....

Goldeneye was the game that really set things going on the FPS shooter front and completely agree that nothing Rare have made since has come anywhere near it. (Perfect Dark was a better game but you couldnt be Oddjob in multiplayer to give yourself that tiny advantage of being an ever so slightly smaller target and it just wasnt as involving without the Bond music.. The remake/sequel had pretty much the same problem for me. It just wasnt as enticing as Goldeneye)

Gears of War was another one that drew you in. Mainly because it was different and the multiplayer was so good. They managed to ruin it after a few patches by making the active reload sniper ridiculous. The sequels never really lived up to the original in my opinion.

One of the games that really had me hooked (and all of my mates) was TopSpin. Playing online doubles on the original Xbox was immense. Then they overcomplicated the controls trying to make it too fancy and ruined the sequels.

The ultimate time losing game has to be championship manager (before SI left Eidos to produce Football manager and made the game even more detailed and complex meaning it took too long to get through a season) I personally lost weeks of my life to 93/94 often sitting at the computer for 24hrs+ without realising it

I could probably come up with a huge list but thats a few off the top of my head that hadnt been mentioned

Bomberman was a fun game but not exactly mind blowing but fun at the time.

Bomberman = awesome!

I also somehow managed to miss Cannon Fodder off my list. I remember losing days to that trying to get through the whole game with Jules and Jops still alive
