Added you to Steam. I'm spooktooth on that (he says, checking).

I'm still playing a lot of Skyrim and no real online stuff just yet but I do have L4D2 (not played it yet tho!)

Interesting reading about your workarounds for getting 3D functional on different tellies. I remember soft-modding my old ATI 9800 pro to an XT via a BIOS flash. I've not done anything like that for a long while though. Nowadays, I just prefer to keep things as simple as possible and don't even overclock no more.

TFT Central and Anandtech have been useful resources for me in the past but I suspect you already know those two!

Yeah, that Phillips TV monitor thing looks like a good deal except for the lack of DVI as you say. It doesn't have a displayport then? I thought maybe things were moving in that direction nowadays? Hope you get it all working correctly over HDMI then. My next monitor's gonna hopefully be a 27"er too. Maybe with higher res and higher colour bit depth for photography tho. Depends on what there is out there that I can afford. Touch wood that my monitor lasts as it is. It's an expensive time of the year to be thinking about getting anything new.

confirmed you on steam. My friends a big fan of skyrim ive not personally been on it TBH if i remember correctly its a bit like a single player world of Warcraft isnt it? if it is i would most likely like it just always been a little too much out of my budget im not a hard core gamer and begrudge paying over £20 for them lol, wow being the exception.

Love L4D2 got 17gig of custom maps lol

I know about anandtech been on few times not seen other though at least not as i remember lol i visit loads of tech sites i lost half of them

TBH i can always use a HDMI to DVI dongle if i have to so not too bad lol, and yea there moving to display port now but your talking £450+ for a 27" with it lol i was kinda shopping on a budget 3D was not top of my list but it wa only about £40 more than the 2D i was looking at so i thought £40 for active 3D was worth it laugh

Yeah mate. Sounds like a bit of bargain tbh. I also don't like paying too much for games. I've got Lego LoTR coming and only paid £17 for it so that's good value for me. I did pay £28 for FC3 but allow myself the odd indulgence if the game's rating particularly highly.

Skyrim is really good. You'd like it if you like WoW I guess (though I've not played WoW at all). My cousins who have played both enjoyed them equally. Skyrim isn't much of a graphical change from the much older (but just as good) Oblivion really. Lots of vids on Youtube plus loads of good free mods on Steam for Skyrim.

I used TFT Central when researching my own monitor as there were issues with its firmware and getting a proper 1:1 aspect ratio for Blu ray etc. I don't think they put much stuff up but have a useful explanation of some of the tech etc. Don't know if they're still that active to be fair. Might come in handy I thought.

When you get your new graphics card then I'll have to see what games we have in common as maybe we can do some co-op stuff. I have never done that except for online multiplayer with mates so that's something to try out one day I reckon. smile

Yeah, some games on Steam are ridiculously expensive. I haven't bought any of the Skyrim DLC because it's priced too high.

Amazon have Oblivion and Skyrim. Oblivion is well worth a go if you have lots of time (it's the kind of game that really draws you in). Graphically, it's about the same as Skryrim I reckon so you won't feel the age too much. You get the main expansion packs too. It's probably best to wait till Skyrim includes the DLC too or gets a bit cheaper than the current £20 asking price. Still worth every penny in my view but as they say, your mileage may vary! grin

Mates just given me his login details to have a go on his account will have to play it in low settings for now though at min ive got a ATI 4850 and there's no drivers for windows 8 now they've discontinued the 4xxx series, TBH its one of reasons im not a AMD fan there support never lasts that long ive got a nvidia 8400 that come out in 2006 that still has real up to date win 8 drivers yet the 4850 card that come out in 2009 is now dead to AMD lol,

TBH ill admit im not a offline game fan either all the games i get i hardly touch offline parts spend hours on online though. so it is best to give it a try before i even spend even £20 lol

Never realised you guys loved me so much. Don't worry, I'll share some of the love with you again soon. But let's face it, PCs are so much sexier than consoles will ever be. So I'm (not) sorry for being such a two timer and can't promise I won't do it again. tongue
