Hardcore in BF2, meant they took away all the vehicles and you spent most of your time running from one location to another.

The other type of hardcore gaming meant knives oot and lots of people bunny hopping everywhere.

Yeah, I'm not l337 enough for hardcore just yet I don't think but it would be nice to get a proper map for sure or none at all even, I guess. It's a distraction I tell ya. crazy

Re: The new Microsoft Media Centre

In reply to a post by SPOOKish:
The two things which really annoy me about the Xbox One that I just can't ignore or be positive about at all (even from MS' point of view) is the definite requirement for always on internet (regardless if that's constant or not) and the blocking of borrowing games. Both unforgivable and unnecessary conditions in my opinion.

Oh, and I should add the requirement to buy the Kinect and always have that attached in order to use the console is ludicrous and alienating too (how many people want to have an active camera system connected to the web pointed their way 24 hours a day?)

Most of the people I know who have an Xbox 360 don't have broadband at all. Full stop. Actually that's everyone apart from some of the guys on this forum. And they don't live in emerging markets or developing countries or in highly isolated rural areas. They live in cities. And they buy trade in games and trade in games they've bought full price in order to... play more games! Duh. Microsoft!!! Now, even if they wanted to upgrade to the new Xbox they can't. They're stuck with the old one.

I actually felt ambivalent about the new Xbox and all its media features and innovative (gimicky) functions before as I wanted to remain open minded and be a little more positive and thoughtful about acknowledging and accepting MS' long held view of becoming a central entertainment hub. They're not alone in this ambition but they're certainly going about it the wrong with in cannibalising a very succesful games console, ripping its guts out and plonking it back in, trojan horse fashion, as a new console. It makes me think I wouldn't be surprised to see an Xbox 720 announced at E3 just for gaming but probably just not this year.

Yeah, c'mon Microsoft. Release the real succesor to the Xbox 360 as well as a media centre that happens to play games like a PC.

i leave my smartphone at home now when i go out on my motorbike. i have done for years.......

In marketing Xmas is known as the PGGS, Primary Gift Giving Season.

In the USA you have Thanksgiving in November and that is seen as the start of the PGGS and the ads etc all start rampiing up for Xmas.

This is where you get Black Thursday etc all come from as Marketing terms that have leaked out and have absolutly no relevance on this side of the Atlantic.

The Xbox One does not require an Always Online Connection, but it does require a periodic internet connection. After connecting your console to the internet and logging in to your Xbox Live, you can play a game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console. [1] Offline gaming is not possible after these time limits until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV, Blu-ray and DVD movies offline.
As explained by Microsoft, Xbox One is designed to run in a low-powered, connected state. This means your system, games and apps are always current and ready to playno more waiting for updates. While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection. Because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection, developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when youre not playing."
I cannot believe that anybody reading this statement would buy one of these consoles. The arrogance of an American mega corporation banking on the gullibility of it's core customer base, is almost too difficult to comprehend.

I hope this turns out to be the biggest own goal ever scored by corporate greed. I'm actually willing it to blow up in their faces as publicly as is possible.

To be honest they have blown any advantage of owning a console away.

Console owners have to pay more for the games as the hardware is partially subsidised and MS/Sony/Nintendo gets a cut of the game price in liscensing fees.

It is why companies look at the amount of games that each owner buys in that life cycle.

If they are to introduce this sort of PC style DRM on the system you might as well not bother and go back to PC and buy games off steam.

They at least are cheaper than consoles when new and older games drop in price.

But there will still be people happy enough to take what is dished out and will happily empty their wallets and moan yet do nothing about it.

I agree, but I honestly don't think this model will ever work. I rarely take a copy of games to a friends and never take my console when travelling. If I buy a used game I would be happy to pay a couple of quid to the developer. That's because I buy use game that have dropped to a tenner. I would never buy a used game for 30 quid in the first place. So it doesn't really affect me, but I still simply wouldn't buy into it out of principal. As you say, there are other options.

I do however see a slow humiliating climb down already beginning and if they haven't fully grasped the pending flop of Wii U proportions, they will do when Sony's pre orders eclipse their own.

As will companies such as Respawn Entertainment who have "sold" (literally) their soul to the console devil (which is a great shame as "TitanFall" sounded like a really interesting new IP).
