It was the industry standard many years ago to supply dedicated servers without subscription.
Not to mention on the xbox 360 there was subscription fees for peer to peer playing (no dedicated servers).
Servers wouldnt be free because activision games are not free to buy.
I can understand subscription fees on games that have no purchase cost, but those fees to the game publisher not to the console manufacturer.
Microsoft were charging fees simply for been the portal, nothing else. It worked as people had no alternative. If you want to watch netflix on your xbox360 you pay the fee, simple as that really. If you want to play multiplayer on your xbox 360 exclusive game you pay the fee, its really that simple.
I am not questioning the value of the ps3 psn package, thats an entirely different subject, as on the ps3 watching netflix requires no psn fee, also there is no fee for multiplayer on the ps3.
On the ps4 there is a fee for multiplaying gaming, sony are struggling financially, they realised people will pay it, so it makes good business sense, but thankfully they are not requiring psn payments for netflix etc. Do I think paying a monthly sub for multiplayer gaming is right? no, but I do understand why sony are charging for it.
The same applies on the PC, eg. I think games like WoW are horrible for the industry. Since blizzard released WoW and it became a cashcow the amount of single player games they have released has almost come to a standstill.
I dont need to make a post just to pat someone on the back, there is already enough of that. I only post things usually to either debate or point out problems. So I have to post gleaming feedback to have respect, I guess I dont get your respect then.
