An interesting read here as to the strengths and weaknesses of each console at release bert.
If you are in no rush then it probably won't matter as MS will likely get the social side fixed sooner rather than later, but Edge aren't known for pulling their punches to be honest.

I dont know what this chip does but installing a game i/o will be the bottleneck, but without googling I am going to guess this 2nd chip is dedicated to background installation of the game whilst the game is been played.
The sub 1 minute installs is easily explainable sony are doing the same as steam. When the game starts installing it puts on the critical files first, when they are in place the game can be launched but isnt yet fully installed. Most games on steam can be launched when only a fraction has been downloaded/installed, sony are just doing the same. This doesnt really need fancy hardware just clever programming, since its now commonplace on pc gaming.
Indeed. If you follow my earlier link the differences are clear, even taking into account the fact the PS4 uses its secondary processor for downloading the update.
Assassin's Creed IV:
Xbox One (offline, no update): 5 minutes 50 seconds
Xbox One (with update, fastest connection): 7 minutes 2 seconds
Xbox One (with update, 10Mbps connection): 10 minutes 32 seconds
PS4: 42 seconds
I also assume it deals with the background install as well if you are still playing. I say this as I have noticed no slowdown at all whilst playing Killzone for example, even though the game is still installing at the same time. If it is purely the main CPU running the game AND installing it concurrently I would be very pleasantly surprised.
The only question would be why on earth Microsoft would hand such an advantage to Sony if the hardware differences are not relevant, especially seeing as MS are the software experts in comparison?

It lasts 4 hours not 2 as you obviously haven't charged it to its maximum capacity when getting the Wii U .
The battery life is terrible but its a nice device and has many benefits, lets also be honest there are not many people that actually sit there and play games for more than a few hours at a time.
I think in Japan they have just released some battery pack improvement for it.

Just seen Super Mario World 3D. Looks sweet for the kids. Might be a Wii U for their birthday then.
Downloading Gravity Rush for free from PS+ on the Vita and Rayman Origins for six quid (someone said it was better than Legends) but the pests have paused the downloads to play the Playroom drawing app on my flipping PS4 again.
Still waiting for Tearaway to come for free. There's no rush with all the other stuff I've still got to get through, so I didn't bother paying £19.99 for it.

Yes the article picked up on most of the things i noticed was missing from the user interface on the xbox one , things i use every day on my 360 . and also picked up on the clunky apps .
Lets be honest here , windows 8 is not Microsoft finest hour but still at every opportunity they try and stuff it down our throats , it all went wrong when they started calling programs , apps .
I now only use my windows 8 whilst gaming , preferring to dual boot into Linux for pretty much everything else i would hate Microsoft to take a similar rout with the Xbox ones user interface , which is exactly what they seem to of done , taking functionality away and making something that works well into something that dose not .
So for now i stay sitting on the fence .

Like you I bought both PS4 and Xbox One to run side by side, but problems with the xbox made me get rid of it, here's why, on the xbox, as I don't have a credit card, I tried putting in paypal as the funding means, but the xbox refuses to see it there as a viable payment option, despite the fact I use paypal without problems everywhere else.
Spoken to Maria and the high level advocacy team at microsoft, this was many weeks ago to get them to fix it, but nothing happened, spoke to six online advisors seeking help, they couldn't do anything, so I bought gift cards, then found out they expire in 30 days?
Not impressed at all, my PS4 on the other hand, perfect, well done Sony.

i don't have a credit card or a paypal account and would prefer not to have a bank account but that's not a option as you have to have some kind of bank account and some type of plastic just to function in this wonderful world where they can track everything you do .
Still i roll with cash money at every opportunity and have become ever so paranoid about my privacy and rightly so . still take issue with the kinect

I didn't realise you could buy on the PSN via PayPal? Is it obvious and I've just not looked properly?

Yeah, the PS4 camera plugs in at the back which is a pain unplugging it whenever I play, but I still do.
Not because I think they are taking anything they shouldn't, but just on principle.

The DS3 battery life was exceptional, as is the Vita's.
The DS4's is a bit of a let down, but I have two and like you say, never game for more than four hours usually. I will buy a 2 metre lead when I'm next in town so no problem then anyway. Pity the Vita's lead is proprietary and far too short to be useful when the battery goes.
