I finally spoke to Plusnet yesterday after getting a waiting time of 15 mins. The last few weeks it always seemed to be 40 mins, so I'd just hang up!
I spoke to a cool guy there (their support staff are always particularly helpful at plusnet) who understood the problem, and after talking to some other gaming savvy guys there, stated there was nothing they could do. When I mentioned my VPN theory he agreed and told me which one he uses at home! I doubt I'll use them (to begin with at least) because they are particularly cheap. The company I have in mind are known for exemplary tech support, so to start with I'll sign up with them on a month to month contract.
The trouble is I'm stacked out with work at the moment and need to get the time to sit down and sort it out. I bought two netbooks for the kids on New Year's Eve. When they updated to Windows 8.1 it forced them to enter a Microsoft account. My missus didn't want them having their own accounts so she entered mine. On reboot their local accounts had been deleted and replaced with mine. Disgraceful behaviour which is why I detest using Windows. It took ages flaffing around to restore the status quo.
So that's put me off getting involved with the VPN this week, at least until I get a day where the kids aren't about and I can concentrate properly on what I am doing. Plus Ghosts Extinction mode is keeping me busy right now. Great tactical game, much more so than COD Zombies.
