That makes sense as I have not noticed any problems with the PSN.

Were you changing DNS to watch US Netflix or something like that ?

no I dont watch netflix on my ps3, it was changed as I am just used to using google dns on all my devices.

Changing dns also wouldnt allow me to watch us netflix, for that either a us proxy or us vpn is needed.

google dns is local to the requesting address if works correctly. so 8.8.8.8 in america will be a different location to 8.8.8.8 in uk.

Ok.

Changing to a US DNS on the PS3 does allow you to watch US Netflix.

You are right, I've seen a few companies offering that DNS service without VPN.

ok I have just tested this thoery with x-files (american netflix only).

changed to an american dns server. x-files not listed
changed to american proxy server (hosted on same ip as my dns server). x-files listed.

so at least for me changing the dns server isnt enough. but I havent tried it on the ps3 yet only pc and wii-u.

yeah netflix arent fooled by changing dns now, most these articles were written in 2012.

http://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/comments/1i0acd/...

both consoles do allow a proxy to be set tho. I was just curious if changing dns would work as it would be better performance than rerouting traffic over a proxy.

unlock-us a service listed in many hits I suspect are using a reverse proxy or something.

Changing the DNS on the PS3 does work, I have done it myself and watched US Netflix. The problem though is that Netflix must be blocking them as they would stop working after a while and you would need to find a new number and so on. A bit of a hassle so the proxy route would probably be a better and more permanent solution.

Yes this was last year sometime when I tried it so it may well not work at all now then.
