I much prefer 1080'to 720. It may not be noticeably different gameplay wise, but I find it far easier on my eyes. I suffer from eye strain and it's definitely better in that respect with heavy textures. I'm not too fussed about frame rate as I'm used to 30 anyway. DriveClub was criticised originally as requiring 60 fps as a racer, but I've not noticed any tearing on videos and the reviews of those who have received it early are generally really good. Project Cars which I will likely pick up after crimbo for proper circuit racing looks beautiful in the graphics department too, but noticeably lacking in background texture. That's fine for circuit racing and the reduced textures will probably mean at least 60fps on all platforms. Horses for sparse courses you might say?
I think the trouble for PC gamers is it's more noticeable if you're used to playing everything at 60+ and then are asked to go back. I've never felt it to be an issue on console to be honest.
You're comment about the slight power difference is incorrect though. You can't make the comparison on multi plats as they are publisher and/or budget led and far more susceptible to platform nerfing. Where you will notice the difference between the consoles is on exclusive titles and that point will be hammered home this year, either way.
