Re: The Witcher

nintendo seemed to get themselves stuck in between two things.

They released the wii-u to keep third party devs happy as they said the wii was too weak, but then those devs said the wii-u is also too weak (as at the time they had access to ps4 and xbox1 dev kits).

Sega had issues with their last 2 console generations, when the sega32x failed, they quickly dumped it and made something newer, but the consumers got so [censored] off with the rapid release they stopped trusting sega and didnt buy what they released, the wii-u has been a disaster, I mean where is the new zelda game? Nintendo abandoned the EU tv service thing they had planned, the wii-u website still looks like its in development (probably abandoned) and 3rd party support is almost dead, ps3 has more 3rd party support than wii-u.

In my mind nintendo should give every wii-u owner either a free console (NX or whatever its called) or at least a significant discount, but they wont, so people will be [censored] off and the NX will fail big time.

The ps4 and xbox1 are both capable of excellent games, I have said in the past I think graphics are not everything, and I still stand by that, likewise tho the ps3 is still capable of excellent games, and only 2 hours ago I ordered 2 more jrpg's for the ps3.

The problems as I see it is the AAA industry has got into 2 main problems.

1 - Safety first, they prefer to release annual sequels to established franchises such as call of duty, vs trying new things. Because its not so risky on their investment. First person shooters sell well, so this has also led to FPS games having a too big share of the market.
2 - Obsession with visuals/graphics, and now also resolution. I am not against a game looking beautiful, however I am when it comes at a clear price, such as dropping framerates, lack of gameplay, expensive development meaning expensive game with lots of DLC. They also dig themselves a hole when they show one set of visuals at E3, and then a year or two later at release its all been downgraded. Sometimes entire elements of gameplay shown at E3 arent even in the final product. I also dont agree with the practice of downgrading pc versions of games because sony/microsoft wont like it when their consoles look worse.

What they need to do is firstly dont show things at E3 that dont resemble the final game, that will stop people talking about visual downgrades, also stop announcing what resolutions etc. are used on what platform, gamers if they dont know wont notice as proven before. Concentrate on gameplay and less on visuals, and try new IP out instead of annual COD games.

I dont think another console cycle will happen for awhile. It costs MS/Sony too much money in R&D to keep throwing out new consoles. MS spend £100 million just on the design of the controller

We need devs to stop making games for the last gen first. Until that happens we just get 360/PS3 games with a high res texture for the current gen consoles. Witcher 3 was current gen only and it looks amazing from all accounts even on console. Devs will get to grips with the technology and squeeze more power out of these consoles, so they're far from dead

i dont get why these console vs PC comparison videos even appear. Its obvious that a dedicated gaming PC with the latest graphics cards and huge memory is going to look better than a console that cannot be upgraded, so what are the videos trying to prove?

...so what are the videos trying to prove?
They're fuel to the fires of gamers who claim graphics aren't as important as gameplay, then blame the console manufacturers for forcing a grass downgrade on them.

Oh, and then accuse everybody else of being a fanboy of whichever platform.

And the second is Cloud Based gaming as thats were the future is and it will mean that they can develop what they want and it will be just like that in your living room and you wont have to worry about upgrades and graphical differences from high end PCs.

I still think we need a better uk based broadband infrastructure for the cloud thing to work and i think its a few years of.
It's years away. Imagine taking any game and adding your current internet latency to every input, on top of the current display cycle?

I have an average 10ms ping. Most people in the UK probably have 5 times that.

A lot of valued points mate, truth is take The Witcher for instance, that won't be appearing on a Nintendo Wii U now will it and thats were the problems lie with Nintendo.

They are probably more stupid and ignorant than Microsofts original Xbox One fiasco launch conference when they basically just said [censored] You to all there loyal 360 supporters.

A mistake that has basically crippled Microsoft for a few years in terms of sales figures and had Sony Executives doing cart wheels for months.

Thanks Microsoft for just giving us a few million of your loyal supporters based on your shambles of a reveal and your future plans for the Xbox One.

As for Sega they had a fantastic console in the Dreamcast but it just didn't register with your average Gamer who new nothing about consoles and games, they just saw the Brand Sony and the playstation 1 and that killed of the Dreamcast.

The new nintendo console will only fail if its over priced and still under spec, and some how i don't see this happening, they have certainly got to get back with more mature content and make sure that every decent 3rd party game appears on there system and looks better than the others, they also got to drop the kiddie type games that nobody cares about, well mature minded people don't .

And don't get me wrong,I'm partial to a bit of Mario and Toad but i also like games in the vain of Bloodborne and GTA type that never see the light of day on a Nintendo System.

Lets face it,they blew away the world when they released the original Wii,every family in the country wanted one because of the motion controlled gaming, both Sony and Microsoft jumped in on the act with the Kinnect and Playstation eye.,but sadly everybody bored with all that now,i was after a mere few short days.and like i said many times before ,motion controlled gaming or Virtual reality for that matter doesn't appeal to me one little bit, just let me lie back and relax with a nice controller ,massive tv and a decent game and I'm happy.

Talking about consoles and time limits, how long did the Atari Jaguar last and the Panasonic 3do,was it about a year ?

As for any future Cod game, you can stick them where the sun don't shine as I'm totally done with that franchise until they come up with something that equals or betters MW 1.

Ive traded the last 3 during the past 3 years in less than a week after release.crazy

Anyway Witcher thoughts tomorrow, and it will be just my initial thoughts on a game which you could literally spend 100/200 hours on.

They seem to be going backwards. It's the same with the battlefield games.
I'm only playing BF Hardline because my mate has it. It's a terrible excuse for a game in so many ways. Maps are too small and GTA V puts the graphics to shame
BF3 was a much better game. BF2 was my favourite, Bad company was good too. Didn't like the stupid futuristic one, followed by BF4 and it just keeps getting worst

They seem to take a good game and [censored] it up
