BT charge for moving master socket ?

[link to this post]

Does anyone know how much BT charge to move a master socket ? Is there a standard charge or does the cost vary with the complexity of the job ?

The socket is currently located in the lounge which is about 20ft away from the junction box where the line emerges from the ground outside, with cabling round the outside of the house.

I would like the master socket moved to the office, which is just the other side of the wall from the main junction box outside.

The job would be a very straight forward one and would shorten the length of cable to the master socket from the junction box outside to about 2ft. My router will then plug straight into that, giving me the best chance of getting a good signal.

Any ideas as to the cost ?

Thanks.

Yes Rik, it's all done for one fixed fee, no matter what or where. No, I don't recall the fee, but if the OP were to ring 150 I'm sure they'd be only too pleased to tell him. Also, 20 odd foot of cable isn't going to make much difference to the signal, to be honest.

"20 odd foot of cable isn't going to make much difference to the signal, to be honest"

You haven't seen the state of the cable....or the state of the partially open junction box full of water, dirt and spiders !

Thanks for the info, people. It's mainly for convenience and also to pre-empt any 'have you tried plugging in to the master socket' nonsense, in case I have problems with the connection at my new house.

If the wiring and block terminals are as bad you say then maybe you should report a fault. How come the block has water in it? Is it external? If so report a missing lid and you could also report a fault of phone ringing continuous when it is raining.
These are just a couple of thoughts and ways I used to get round charging when I worked as an engineer for BT.
BTW per occasion charging for jobs like that used to be

Things have changed a lot in 20 years. The pressure upon engineers to raise charges is a lot greater.

..and why is it not testing battery then ? These things do not dry out that quick. I suspect the cost of having the NTE shifted would be less than the 'fault not found' charges.

Are you telling me that engineers now charge for FNF?

Engineers have to provide a reason they did not charge on every single job.

If a punter books an engineer to rearrange their internal wiring, they are going to get billed for the visit.
