stupid wireless bugs

[link to this post]

How come, computers using the wireless connection to the router will occasionally mess up. The DNS seems to stop working (or it gets REALLY slow) (or else it aint dns and something else is messing up) and sites dont load, nor can i conect to anything.

Secondly, when the wireless signal is lost for some reason, and it reconnects, DNS doesnt work for about 5 mins after (again, i THINK its the DNS.)

My XBOX 360 uses a wired connection, and it has no problems whatsoever! Anyone any ideas on what could be wrong.

Note, it could not be DNS, seeing as i just checked and IP's dont seem to work either...

I really dont want to buy the 360 wireless adaptor if it will do the same as the pc's.

Wireless is very dependent on signal strength. You may well find that relocating the router will help maintain signal.... Also make sure there are no idle timeouts set in anything......
Maybe try setting a static ip to all local systems rather than dchp.

We've been getting similar both on wireless and wired through the router. Only rebooting the router seems to help. Sites like google and msn seem to just stop avan though sync is good and speed up to "normal"

I had problems with a Belkin Wireless router that had similar symptoms. To sort the problem I had to change the wireless channel from Auto to 6 (or any free channel) as it kept seeming to change channel all of a sudden which caused problems with all wireless connected computers.

I also found the initial firmware that came with my Belkin Wirless card was a little dodgy.

Run a netstumble (or equiv software) and see what wireless networks are in the area, and more importantly how strong. Then pick a channel that isn't used, but bear in mind that there are overlaps on the channels, so try and go 3 higher or lower than a used channel if you can.

Any cordless phones, xmas lights, dodgy microwave ovens, etc, etc... All will cause problems believe it or not.

At least you don't have any intel rubbish !!

Also, if your software has it, set the 'stickiness' to very sticky, power output to high and try the same setup without WPA, and on b not g. Also try it without security and encryption - *at your own risk*.

found something strange. The router is set to channel 11, but my card is using channel 1, and netstumbler picked it up on channel 1?

Starting to sound like the router, tried a factory reset and reconfigure in case the config on it is messed?
