Hi all
My BT BB has been running nicely for a while - up until today.
The sky digibox hasn't been connected to the BT socket for ages, and we got a letter asking to sort it. So I did, this morning.
Only, since it's been connected, bt bb has been disconnecting and reconnecting a lot.
I have a speedtouch 585i wireless router plugged into the primary socket, and a 10m bt extension cable connected between primary socket and digibox in the front room.
The primary socket has been replaced with one of those ones with a dedicated dsl socket in the faceplate, fwiw.
Any ideas why this is happening?

Put an ADSL filter on the skybox connection to the phone line.

If the socket is already filtered internally, putting another filter on may not solve the issue.
Is your adsl connected via extension at all?
If you don't book anything through sky, then tell them that connecting their plug causes the DSL to drop. They only need it connecting to charge you for what you may have ordered at the end of each month or so. If you are not ordering anything, then they should not have a problem if you leave it disconnected.
Ours has not been connected for five years or so now.

Why connect it at all unless you're contractually obliged to? Used to apply to the first 12 months of signing up to Sky as I recall....after that, they can stick it.

Part of the reason for keeping the box connected to a phone line is to ensure you are not using the digibox outside the UK as Sky do not have the rights to broadcast outside the UK.
It's well known that some sky boxes do have a fault which knocks out broadband, although Sky have a habit of denying it.

It depends on the package you have. If you have the Multi-room package with boxes in two rooms, and two subscription cards, then BOTH boxes have to be connected to the same phone line. Sky police this very rigourously.

our skybox is disconnected for a strange reason. Whenever our telephone would ring, the skybox would "answer" it before it even rang, so the person on the other end could hear what was going on without us realising that the phone was on...

Double filters have been known to work with problem devices like Dect phones, faxes and sky boxes. It also eliminates the chances of old extension wiring bypassing the faceplate filter. Double-filtering won't do any harm either, unlike some suggestions to unplug the box and incur an extra charge.
