Personall I would take nothing for granted.
A few pointers.
First its unlikely the bell wire is causing crackle on your line.
By connecting your telephone to the test socket and no noise proves the noise is internal and therefore your problem
If you believe the crackle is having an adverse effect on your broadband connection then connect your router to the master test socket.
Its obvious the colour code has been ignored be careful what you disconnect and be prepared to reconnect. In fact the connected colours could be an indication of a wiring problem hence the wrong colours used.
report the noise to BT.

It was BT enginners who did the new master socket,must have been rushing to much to reach new targets.

Still no wiser on which is the colour of the ring wire so stuck at the moment.

what targets are those?

The old master socket was wired up like that so when the BT engineer installed the NTE5a he used the same sequence, otherwise he would have had to rewire all your other sockets as well and thats not really his job.

That was really a joke as i have no idea really.i was just picking up on a earlier thread which suggested the colour code had been ignored,if there were numbers next to the terminals i think no 3 is the ring wire and could remove it, but no numbers so cant guess.

Similar to this?

Check out description at bottom of page, it might help?
As you look at it, terminal at top is 5 then 4, 3, with 2 at the bottom.
Once again 3 should be the ring wire.

Yes its not the same.but is similar,if i read the terminals this way

2
3
4
5

like the link shows,i have

2=blue
3=green
4=empty
5=orange

so green on my setup is the ring wire,that does tally looking at the link.its just that i was looking at it 1,2,3,4 so that in that case terminal 3 was empty.

Hope that makes sense because its confusing me now. [where are the tablets]
