BT Total Broadband profile stuck?

[link to this post]

Hi guys,

I'm completely new to the intricacies of broadband, as far as I was concerned it pretty much just worked until a fortnight ago when we 'upgraded' to BT total broadband option 3.

Since then I've been doing a little research, and I think my Bras profile may be stuck, but I don't really understand all the numbers, so I'd like to ask the more experienced people here what they think

Anyway.

2 weeks ago today we got bt total broadband. When I go on the broadband status page on the router, I get the following results:

Uptime: 2 days, 2:59:44
Modulation: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 8,096
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 165.64 / 1.22
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 12.0 / 24.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 20.0 / 13.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 14,942
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 114
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 100

They've stayed pretty constant every time I've looked at them. In particular, I've never caught it in the act of being connected at anything other than 448 up and 8096 down, and I've looked at various times, plus I don't think the line's ever been dropped, although I've had to restart the homehub a couple of times when it seemed to crash (it was still connected to the internet, but it wouldn't dns and it wouldn't show the interface). The downstream SN margin has been 13.5 occasionally.

However, up until yesterday, if I went on the BT speedtester, it said my profile was set at 2000k, and my actual throughput tended to be around 1.7k. The thinkbroadband speedtester confirmed these results.

Yesterday we got BT vision. My most recent think broadband test results are here: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/119342212443819722579.html
The bt speedtester says I'm still connected at 2000k, but it's now trying to do an extra test, something about something being assured? It didn't finish it and advised me to try again later.
So far BT vision works fine; I've only downloaded one music video through it but it played back perfectly, but it's early days yet.

Do you think I should be getting better speeds through my line? Do you think my profile maybe stuck?

Sorry this post has turned out so long! Thank you for your help.

Joanna

Thank you so much for your prompt reply!

I tried turning the homehub off for a couple of minutes and now:

Test1 comprises of two tests

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8096 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5283 kbps
2. Assured Rate Test: -provides background information.
Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 547 kbps

You've totally made my weekend.

Joanna

In reply to:

You also seem to have scored a first!!

I thought probably, then I did a search for "2. Assured Rate Test: -provides background information". You seem to be the first person to have posted the results of a BT speed test that gives results for the Assured Rate Test.

OOps!!

I thought I searched all forums up to 6 months for "2.Assured Rate Test". Looks like I messed up the search somehow .

Sorry joannastar. You haven't scored a first after all.
