If I change my current BT provided phone line to another supplier, say for example the Post Office, will this affect /disrupt my adsl broadband with a non-BT supplier?

as long as its a BT line even if resold via Wholesale Line Rental you should be OK.
Fully unbundled LLU lines are another story.
