Password query on Talk Talk LLU

[link to this post]

My friend has recently taken out an 18 month contract with Talk Talk and is disappointed as he is only getting an (up to) 8 Mb service despite being on LLU.

He lives close to the exchange and was hoping to be on an (up to) 24 Mb and wants to get out of the contract saying that it isn't what he signed up for.

I can't see Talk Talk backing down on this as they will probably say that he didn't check before taking out the contract or he didn't read the small print properly.

To be honest I thought that all LLU operators offered an (up to) 24 Mb service on ADSL2/ADSL2+ and if it was me I wouldn't be pleased either.

At least he has a slightly higher upstream speed of just over 600 Kb/s compared to BT's 448 Kb/s.

Incidentally, he says that he didn't need a username and password like me on O2 LLU so am I right in thinking that all LLU connections don't need them and only BT Wholesale connections require a username and password?

Just curious.

p.s. I wasn't sure where to post this topic as posting in the section 'Local Loop Unbundling & Regulation Issues' didn't really seem relevant.

Any IPstream connection will need a user/password I think because BTw need to route the connection to the correct ISP and that seems to be the way they do it as with every IPstream ISP I used the user included an ISP address of some sort.

On LLU I guess it is up to the operator because the line connects to a DSLAM which in turn connects to them and I doubt there are any cases of anybody pirating the cabling. As you noted no userid is used with O2 and there is no auth process.

With UKO LLU I needed a username/password. They do auth it too because I got locked out one evening when their auth server went down.

Hi, If you go to the talk talk members forums you ask to be put onto a 24meg profile and then he will have to pay an extra £4 a month i think to get the 8 meg restriction on the line lifted and get upto 24meg speed if his line is capable of that sort of speed and profile.

It's pretty obvious on this page. As well as the "if your line can handle bit". Could his?
