Its a Netgear 834Gt and Im with ADSL24. My synch speed is still at what it has been for weeks (4160). My question is this- are these loss of connections to my ISP's servers or loss of synchs to the exchange? It happened a few days ago and again my synch is what its been for weeks. The only thing that reset was the WAN connection time on the statistics window. Im thinking its my ISP as my synch has remained static but im not sure what LCP, CHAP etc means.

thanks for the info- I had a few problems a while ago which caused my Tsnr to go to 15 and Im struggling to get it back down. I did a resync after 4 weeks of solid connection and it remained at 15db, Ive now managed 840 hours LAN according to my router so I was hoping I hadnt gone back to square one with a load of unexpected reconnections!
Do you think that must have been an ADSL24 issue then?

Yes, looks like a radius server problem on their network.

It could have been, but any loss of (data) connection between you and the authentication server could have the same effect. A router going down, BT maintenance work... take your pick

Thanks for the advice chaps, heres hoping my Tsnr comes down eventually. I had even toyed wit the idea of regrading to 2meg for a month then returning to max to force a re-train

Iirc it only comes down very slowly, something like 3db every couple of weeks (could be wrong on that).

I don't think it forces a resync either, so you won't necessarily know it's come down until one happens for some reason or you force one yourself.

And sometimes it doesn't come down at all... in which case you'll have to ask your ISP to kick BT, who may or may not take any notice

The problem is loss of PPP Authentication. I have had the problem . It started early august .I am with ZEN they are investigating (pushing BT) . It seems that other ISP are seeing the problem. I suggest that you report it to your ISP emphasizing that IT is NOT a loss of connection but it is loss of PPP authentication. You might also mention that other ISPs are also seeing the problem

Details:

We are currently investigating an issue with four LNS devices in Telehouse East related to the DSL Platform, these devices have now been rebooted and should once again be accepting connections.

DSL customers who are experiencing continuing problems should power down their equipment for five to ten minutes before attempting to reconnect.

Our engineers are on site investigating in more depth and updates will be provided as and when we get them.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Any idea what netgear routers say for loss of sync? I've never seen them say anything different to that quoted, and will no doubt have had a loss of sync before.

Plenty of users on this BBS though, I'm sure someone can give the information you want- loss of sync isn't exactly a rare phenomenon!

It's a fairly useless log IMO. For instance since switching it on this morning I have done two re-syncs using telnet. The complete log so far is:-

Sat, 2009-08-29 06:17:39 - Router start up

As I shall get a disconnection this evening I shall see what it has to say after that.

Either my Linksys or SpeedTouch used to give connection stats and other info, which I found useful.

I think using telnet is like rebooting clears all the counters.
I personally use routerstats to monitor .Amongst many other parameters you can clearly see Lan uptime ,WLan uptime ,Wan uptime , PPP uptime .

It's the log that's useless .

As expected during the evening I got two disconnections/re-syncs. Nothing whatsoever in the log. It shows, right now:-

I have not had any resynchs ,that is disconnections from the exchange ,so I have not been able to see what my log says ,However this month I have had loss of PPP (chap authentication) whilts the synch remained rock steady. It was bad for about a couple of weeks . its been under investigation(ZEN chasing BT) . Has been stable for last 9 days .
