LCP (Link Control Protocol)
CHAP (Challenge-handshake authentication protocol)
And no, it's not a loss of sync, that would be a different log entry.
Any idea what netgear routers say for loss of sync? I've never seen them say anything different to that quoted, and will no doubt have had a loss of sync before.

Any idea what netgear routers say for loss of sync? Can't help on that I'm afraid, it's a few years since I last used a Netgear
Plenty of users on this BBS though, I'm sure someone can give the information you want- loss of sync isn't exactly a rare phenomenon!

Typically, my DG834 says:
Wed, 2009-08-26 19:27:38 - Loss of synchronization :1
Wed, 2009-08-26 19:51:25 - LCP down.
Wed, 2009-08-26 19:52:17 - Initialize LCP.
Wed, 2009-08-26 19:52:17 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Wed, 2009-08-26 19:52:24 - CHAP authentication success

It's a fairly useless log IMO. For instance since switching it on this morning I have done two re-syncs using telnet. The complete log so far is:-
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:01:00 - Send out NTP request to time-g.netgear.com
Sat, 2009-08-29 06:18:41 - Receive NTP Reply from time-g.netgear.com
Sat, 2009-08-29 06:17:39 - Router start up
Sat, 2009-08-29 06:17:40 - Router start up
As I shall get a disconnection this evening I shall see what it has to say after that.
Either my Linksys or SpeedTouch used to give connection stats and other info, which I found useful.

I think using telnet is like rebooting clears all the counters.
I personally use routerstats to monitor .Amongst many other parameters you can clearly see Lan uptime ,WLan uptime ,Wan uptime , PPP uptime .

It's the log that's useless .
As expected during the evening I got two disconnections/re-syncs. Nothing whatsoever in the log. It shows, right now:-
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:01:00 - Send out NTP request to time-g.netgear.com
Sat, 2009-08-29 06:18:41 - Receive NTP Reply from time-g.netgear.com
Sat, 2009-08-29 06:17:39 - Router start up
Sat, 2009-08-29 06:17:40 - Router start up
The counters show up fine.
