What is 'normal' download usage?

[link to this post]

I am new to broadband. Today my PC has been connected to internet since 9am . I have visited 3 or 4 websites and sent and received 3 or 4 e-mails. My download usage shows 93mb so far. Is that normal or is it high?

That feels slightly high for the usage you describe. Were these e-mails with large attachments or did you play a load of video on one of the sites you visited?

Is it a new PC? If it is there could have been quite a lot of Microsoft updates and suchlike. (Mind you those would probably a lot more than that).

Or just you haven't used it for a few days and your anti-virus software had a few updates to download?

eBay? Any of the social web sites like Facebook. Short videos on the BBC web site perhaps?

It does sound high then, I'd expect normal web browsing to be less than 100MB per day.

Very easily could be a few software updates, and some websites when you are doing nothing are updating tickers etc

As you and Bob say this usage could easily be accounted for by software updating itself over the web.

DROGERS924 it might be a case of checking the update options of any software you have bought and disabling auto-updates, and doing the same for Windows updates. If they have the option perhaps tick the check for updates but ask me before you download box.
