Tagging

Help
I'd love to be a broadband babe but am still a dail up frump as I've been caught in the tagging trap. Here is my tale.....On the 31st August I decided it was time to get with it and ordered bt braodband it was due to go active 22nd Sept....however I had a change of heart (another tale) and cancelled my broadband order on the 1st Sept.....or at least that is what I thought....I still recieved updates from bt engineers and a home hub....lots of phone calls to bt throughout September and early October and I was finally told no I was not a bt broadband customer but yes they had not cancelled it all properly and the technical part had gone ahead. Uhhhhh. But no they couldn't remove the tag as I wasn't their customer.....my prefered provider, who I use for my calls tell me they can't remove the tag as it seems to their ps or pp system to be an active tag... I've talked to ofcom twice now who are talking to bt and who they say should get in touch with me but not a lot is happening. Getting pretty desperate to the point that I am writing on a forum which I have never done before!!!!! Hoping guys and girls that you can give me some pearls of wisdom.
Thanks

Which ISP are you intending to use for broadband? It is their responsibility to get the tag removed.

Hi helpful John 2007
Have been told by ofcom that if its an inactive tag that my new provider...onetel can remove the tag but if active it is different. Onetel is consistently giving me the impression that its an active tag and that they need a mac code...including 3 guys from what sounds like the technical department. I can't migrate according to bt as I am not a customer and they would have to make me a customer to give me a mac code.....reallly don't want to do that!!!!!!!!!
Thanks

I'm not familiar with onetel. I believe some ISPs are better than others at getting tags removed but don't know which, hopefully someone else does.

Pity, no LLU (i.e. no operators other than BT wholesale).

I'd be tempted to approach (e-mail or phone) one of the decent monthly contract ISPs such as NewNet, IDNet, Zen, AAISP and specifically raise the tag problem. See if they have any magic solutions (or at least words of comfort).

Hi,
I know this has been said before, but a tag regardless of type is the responsibility of your new ISP to deal with. We do get this a lot, not as often as we used to. Some are easy to deal with others are a little trickier, but all ISP's get access to a BT TAG team, and it is them to sort this out for you, not for you to be doing their work for them!
