Given that 100 pair 0.5 mm telephony cable weighs between 1.5 tonnes per km and 0.9 weighs about 3.5 tonnes it will have taken a lot of effort to pull out a km from a duct and what would it have been wound on to? With 800 lines there could be anywhere from 12 to 30 tonnes.

My understanding is that they've got a cabling truck.

Quite probably - maybe one of the BT subcon teams doing a little moonlighting!

Its probably the team of scalliwags that honed their skills nicking the enta (leased) global crossing fibre in the Sheffield area. Presumably that's better protected now so they are looking for other targets. We all said "what idiots" little realising they were just out practicing.
