Orange usage 6.1gb one month

Hi,

My dad took out a mobile contract with orange a couple of years ago which gave us free 8mb broadband (+£5 for wireless).

We have suffered from a really poor connection to be honest, having to reset the livebox quite often and it generally being very slow but today we have received a letter about the fair usage policy. Apparently over october to november we used 6.1gb and so our speed is being capped over peak times.

There are 3 people in the house that use the computer- 2 university students who use the internet in the evenings for coursework, generally a maximum of 2 laptops going at the same time but also play on xbox live.

We havent noticeably changed our usage which is the strange thing.

So, to my question, how far over the fair usage part are we?

Really confusing myself here- it is gb lol

Probably is GB 6GB for a month isn't much, especially with a few people connected! FWIW My family use around 20GB a month on average.

A half hour iPlayer program can use around 1/4GB.

As your BB package is 'free' I'm not surprised they have a low FUP - do you know what it is?

Most providers have a system where you can login to see what your usage is - someone more familiar with Orange may be able to say if you can do this.

If you register, which takes a couple of minutes, you can edit future posts for up to 12 hours after posting.

You can also see and post in more forums and all the adverts in the threads disappear.

Two years ago, Orange's lowest package, Starter, which was given free with a mobile contract, had a Usage Allowance of 2 GB/month (not FUP). It is this you have presumably exceeded. They may have only warned you after repeatedly going over.

Nowadays, the usage is "Unlimited", i.e. subject to FUP. You should contact their Retention Dept. for an upgrade and see what they offer you to stay. It will no longer be free but a £3 discount on normal prices, but they may offer you 3 months free, as they did me.

Orange do not operate a Usage Monitor on their website.
