BT speed tester

[link to this post]

I seem to recall reading somewhere that you can change your router settings to run a speed test that bypasses your service provider to see what speed you should be getting.
Anyone heard of it ?

Thanks noinchki,
I followed the instructions on there and chaged the username and password on my router,(netgear 834) then re started my router but could not connect to the internet with the user name
speedtest@speedtest_domain and password testing and the test page on http://217.32.105.42
consistantly timed out.
Any ideas please.

It's a newer replacement version called the Performance tester, see how to use it from this PN link, what you previously tried doesn't work with this new BT speedtester AFAIK.

Thanks,
That's the normal BT tester, I can do that one, it's the ISP byepass one that I can't seem to get working.

As I said it's been replaced, AFAIK there is no other earlier version available anymore smile
