New line up before activation

[link to this post]

Hi All.

Just in the process of moving hose.

I have moved house and am in the process of getting everything up and running.

Work are picking up my bills for the phone line and broadband through one of our suppliers.

Its a BT line with Demon RSL MAX Business on it.

The order was offiically placed last Wednesday, and since Thursday night I have has a sync with the exchange and the username and password are active. Official activation is set for 15/7/10

Although the line appears up, it is quite a bit slower than the initial estimates where indicating. For ADSL Max I was being estimated 800K upload, and 2.5 down. Not as good as what I had at my last place, but certainly enough for me to do my job. (IT Engineer)

As said, the line is up (sync'd 700k up/average 1200k down, SNR 8-9db, loop att 68, speed test 900kb down, 500kb up) but it is very erratic in terms of what appears to be a DNS issue. I do run a server at home, but have gone with just the router passing DNS, server running DNS etc, but some sites work to some degree, others dont at all. Tried 3 seperate routers, Draytek2820, Draytek 2800 and a Cisco877.

It is essential that I get ADSL running (no cable in my area) as I dont have mobile phone coverage and require my vodafone sure signal up and running (which it cant do right now either through speed or fact it cant find vodafones servers via DNS)

I have never had a line go active before the activation date, so am in unknown waters a little about how the process goes, and cant really see much.

I know I probably cant start the ball rolling with Demon yet as its not officially activated (no email from them saying it is like with the other lines we have put through them) and then probably not for the 10 days after.

If a line goes active before its date, should it be as it will be? Or do ISP's do more work on activation day that might make things better?

Thanks,
RIch.
