bt master socket query

[link to this post]

hi there,

i have been having problems with my broadband over the last 2 months , in the day the sync would be between 4.3 - 4.5 then at some point after midnight this should drop to 3.2 - 3.3 , the router does not disconnect at all.

if i then decide to re-sync during the day back up to 4.3 - 4.5 , only do this like once every 4 days

i have had 3 bt engineers here in 8 days all say there is no issue at my end.

and that a lift and shift should be done .

A manager from the post office rung me back and said this can be done if you agree to possible changers, as everything in your property is your responsibility.

i quick pointed out i only have the one socket and that is bt responsibility up to and including the master socket, anything after that is mine. am i right ?

but how can i possible have a fault when i have had 3 bt engineers in 8 days say there is no fault at my place .

are they trying to use scare tactics because they have to pay for the shift and lift ?

many thanks

You are syncing during the day and probably with a 6dB margin. At night the atmospheric conditions change and the noise floor rises by between 3 and 8 dB (or so). That will push your margin towards zero and at that time the router decides it cannot hold the connection and will initiate a resync with a 6dB margin and the slower speed.

There is probably (almost certainly) nothing wrong - just the laws of physics and you need to find a sync speed in between and time a resync for then possibly around 7 AM or 6PM at the moment.

On my line I see swings of typically 5dB and sometimes more. If I resync now I could increase my sync speed by between 800kbps and 1Mbps but know that it will resync overnight.
