BT Broadband Speed Checker - How long does it take to update

[link to this post]

I recently moved both my telephone and broadband services from Sky back to BT. I was given a new telephone number as the one that I originally transferred from BT to Sky wasn't transferred.

When I plug in my new number into the BT broadband speed checker it returns 9.5Mbps, it has always said 5.5Mbps!

My new number has been in use before I had it and I'm guessing the BT broadband checker is reporting the speed at the previous end user's location rather than the location it is used now.

How long do you think it will take to update on BT's system?

Normally within 2 days. It can take quite a bit longer though.

Does it matter? It's higher than before. The usual problem is it being too low so preventing some ISPs from accepting an order.

What connection speed is your router showing? That is a fact - the other is an often wildly inaccurate estimate.

The full stats - in particular the downstream and upstream speeds, attenuations and margins will tell us a lot.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk
My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - O2 Standard.
