Hi there was wondering if anyone could help. im switching from orange broadband to sky broadband 2moz sky say i can get 10-20 meg on my line but i only get about 6 with orange?
i have posted my stats two see if that helps
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : ADSL2
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 9.8
Attenuation (dB) : 38.5
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 5804
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 5770 605

The attenuation says you should getting between 8Mbps and 11Mbps now, so at 5770kbps something is very wrong.
You are also on ADSL2, where normally we would expect ADSL2+. Again, something strange.
On ADSL2+ on Sky you should get a bit more, but your maximum possible is 12Mbps.
There is a slight chance the problem is with the Orange equipment at the exchange, but it is more likely it is at your end. If it is at your end then you will probably not see any improvement until we find the reason you aren't getting at least 8Mbps now.
What have you got connected to your phone line as well as the broadband, and does everything go through a filter or does something connect direct to a phone socket? Particularly Sky boxes and phone-connected burglar alarms.
If there are extensions, were they installed by the builders or don't you know?
Has it ever been better than 6Mbps?

their LLU was originally ADSL2 only IIRC, may be a legacy account (like I keep finding people on 1152/288 IPStream).

Hi, you will only get maximum 6024Kbps with ADSL2. Do you have Orange LLU at your exchange? Demand to be on Orange LLU and you should then get about 11695Kbps Downstream.

their LLU was originally ADSL2 only IIRC No, their 8 Meg packages were ADSL Max originally, uprated to ADSL2+ when they went LLU; all their 20 Meg (LLU) packages were ADSL2+, of course. They never had any in between packages.

I def saw ADSL2 on their LLU at a time when there was no mention of faster than 8M products.

Hi, you will only get maximum 6024Kbps with ADSL2. Where do you get that from? Do you have Orange LLU at your exchange? Demand to be on Orange LLU and you should then get about 11695Kbps Downstream. I think the default target noise margin on Orange LLU is 9dB or 10dB. 11695kbps would only be on a very clean line with 6dB target margin.
The farina line speed checker is very good, but according to the writer is designed basically to estimate speeds on upgrade from ADSL. Though like you I have used it sometimes for ADSL2 and even existing ADSL2+ connections, to see what it says.

it's not fixed to ADSL2 then, and gained 700k going to 2+

Better than before, but still a long way from what you should be getting.
We'll see how things are on Sky . There is a DLM system, but I don't think there is a 10-day training like with BT-based ISPs. But don't start doing lots of reconnections to see if things can improve, as even though an occasional one may be faster the overall effect can only be to make things worse.
I would still like to know about what you have on the line, as per my earlier reply to you.

"Frying pan ... fire" springs to mind.
Seriously, you may have to wait a few days for the system to train itself.
EDIT: What is the ADSL Mode it is now using? Is it still ADSL2+?

I think that is normal for the first day or so on Sky. They start at 4Mbps and assess the line. Don't mess, and with luck things will improve tomorrow or the day after.
