Broadband setup

At the moment, I am receiving broadband through a Thomson Speedtouch 510 modem. I have another PC in another room by a phone extension socket which I would like to be able to access the internet occasionally. I know I could simply disconnect my modem & plug it in the other room when I need it, but if I bought another Speedtouch 510, could I simply plug it in or would this cause conflicts with my main PC. Ignore wifi please.

As far as I know, two modems will not go. Best to connect the modem to a switch (preferable) or hub, and both PCs to that. Failing that, a multi-port router with a built in switch is the tidiest option.

As long as only one is plugged into the line at a time it will work.

Thanks, the rooms are quite a distance apart so it wouldn't be practical to wire both PCs into a switch. Would a 'multi-port router with a built in switch' also mean lengthy wiring?

Really, it looks like disconnecting the modem and carrying it upstairs to the other room sounds like the best option doesn't it - unless I consider wifi

Speedtouch 510 has built-in 4 port hub.

Powerline Ethernet adapters sounds the way to go.

Sorry thicko question, what is a homeplug & how does it work?

I think the latest models have more ports. Mine is an older one and I can only see one port at the back
