LLU or 21CN

[link to this post]

Hi

I've just thought that i could actually sign up to 21CN through a reseller rather than have to take LLU from a company.

I guess 21CN from BT will be traffic managed, but from other smaller companies i imagine it will be set by them?

Are there any reseller companies you can recommend for 21CN over LLU or would it be best to just go with Sky paritial LLU unlimited?

Exchange is Bishop Auckland

Orange has got rid of its LLU and now sells BTw White Label 21CN WBC in 21CN exchanges. It is supposed to be Unlimited usage with no FUP.

Speeds are excellent and it's good value-for-money. Phone support may leave something to be desired.

Hi

So p2p is not throttled any time of day? Do you mean phone technical support or the phone line they provide if they provide one?

So you mean phoning them for support. What is the email support like then?
Do you have your phone line through Orange also? Do you know if its on BT network still or like how they used to with Full LLU? Also is there a minimum contract period?

I don't have my phone with Orange, but they still do BT WLR lines. They are not LLU of any flavour; as I said earlier they sell BT WBC.

Hi, Ive been with Orange fourteen months for broadband and landline phone. I joined on their 20Meg LLU broadband service, which Orange closed down in preference for 21CN WBC 20Meg and I was transferred over. I find it great the transfer went smoothly and Ive no complaints of the service.

In addition, if you have your mobile phone on monthly contract with Orange you get £5 per month off the broadband price.

Answers to your questions

1. So you mean phoning them for support. I had no problems with them when I phoned the service centre in Newcastle.

2. What is the email support like then? Dont know, never had to use support for email its always very reliable.

3. Do you have your phone line through Orange? Yes! I pay them £11.50 per month line rental. The service is the same as being with BT, you get the same telephone answering service and caller display.

4. Do you know if it is on BT network? Yes, the broadband and landline phone service is on the BT network.

5. The minimum contract period for broadband is 18 months.

Going back to my original question. How does BT's 21CN compare to LLU? If on 21CN aren't we subject to BT's IP Profiling stuff? Does it also make any difference that a lot of 21CN products are up to 20Mbps and LLU is usually up to 24Mbps?

Up to 20Mbps and up to 24Mbps, just confusing marketing speak, they are all ADSL2+ and in theory capable of 24Mbps, but so few get that speed that some ISP's prefer to use upto 16 or 20Meg as the marketing figure.

IP Profile still exists, but on a large number of WBC (21CN) exchanges it is a real time adjustment now.

My speeds with LLU and 21CN WBC I find are the same.
I switch my router off overnight and the speed does not decrease, so I think it is not affected by profiling.

From my experienced on Orange LLU broadband it was the other way around, first I was capped at 16000Kbps then months later 18000Kbps.
Now I see on 21CN WBC capped at 24000Kbps. Infomation from 2Wire 2700HGV router

I've been looking on Orange site. Its £10 for broadband without orange mobile and then £12.75 line rental. If you choose just broadband they seem to want to charge £17.75. This is like when you don't take phone off a LLU provider and pay higher phone costs for using BT systems.

More like they make more profit from you if you take calls from them.

However, their call prices are not much diff. from BT's and BT's CS for the phone is far superior.

Exactly! You just need to weigh up the the Pros & the Cons.

I choose Orange Simply BB + BT Phone and would never change that mix, altho' would change ISP if necessary (which having BT Phone makes easier).

Ok that makes sense smile

Have you heard of any problems of Orange customers moving their broadband? Actually if you sign up to phone and broadband from Orange and want to change broadband would you have to move phone also, Orange don't seem to provide just phone. If so makes perfect sense having BT as phone line.

You would need to take out line rental with someone else, your new ISP if they do it, or BT or PO. The actual line should be unchanged but you may need to pay a connection charge, e.g. up to £30 from BT. You will probably tie yourself into a min term contract. All this is avoided if you keep it with BT in the 1st place.

Hi chrish16, I find Orange for landline phone no different to being with BT, its like being with BT but paying Orange prices. You get the same BT answering service and caller display. wink

I was on a 12 months rolling contract for telephone with BT and had to wait until one month before the end, to cancel the BT rolling contract. Then I had to wait 2 months for my previous ISP broadband contract to finish, before I could move to Orange for broadband and landline phone.

My mobile phone is on contract with T-Mobile until January next year, I may move it to Orange, but it will depend on price. I want 300 minutes, 300 texts, 500MB data per month and find T-Mobile very competitive for this.

Orange have increased their charges this week, line rental was £11.50 now £12.75 a month. frown

I am on a pretty long line,, so my sync speed will never be great here. I was with Bt broadband for 20 months or so, it was ok, in fact I had 3.5megabits most of the time until they changed to their 21CN system.

I then found that i had disconnections, when they sroted that out my sync speed was just above 2megabits and their profiling could not cope for some reason, I was at 2 megabits one day, the next day it could be 1 megabit.

so after a lot of thought and thanks to some people on these forums I decided to drop Bt and go with a Cable and wireless LLU supplier, which was ADSL24 in the end. Broadband wise i think it was one of the best things I ever done.
I now get over 4megabits sync speed using my speedtouch, just over 3.5 if I use the netgear. It stays constant as there is no profiling or DLM on Cable and wireless.

Not saying all LLU services are as good, most of the others have some form of DLM, but I know that sky at least will change it if there are problems.

what LLU services are available where you are?

I know my broadband cost more than than say Sky or Talk Talk, but at least it is unlimited and no traffic management.
Of cause it don't mean that I will stay where i am until the end, depends on money and if I need to cut down any time.
