The only BT socket that I have is in the lounge it has ADSL v10 faceplate the 2wire connects to this, there is extension socket this has been disconnected and not in use , the attic was reference to me having to go up and get a older phone down and replace the dect phone I was using.

Ive gone back to how I had it before the dect phones and put the faceplate back these are the readings within 30secs -

Rate: 6208 kbs 448 kbs
Max Rate: 6208 kbs 1036 kbs
Noise Margin: 8.8 dB 24.0 dB although the noise margin has risen to 9.3
Attenuation: 42.0 dB 26.5 dB
Output Power: 19.8 dBm 12.2 dBm

Can you confirm that when you removed the faceplate there were no wires at all attached to it please smile? That it was completely detached.

Sorry to be a pedant about that, but you would be amazed how many people repeat what they were told, but what they were told was incorrect, or at least "insufficiently detailed" smile.

I'm stuck now, apart from the SNRM reset already talked about.

No problem that is fine, I can appreciate the concern through similar experience.

Just two more questions one poster on the thread does not think there is problem this was repeated on the Bt forum too ? Also the 9db to 6db and increase of 750kbps, is this set a figure?. Anyway thanks for your time, I'm going to browes your site and perhaps this evening instead of Xfactor and BB weave a basket.wink

LOL re the TV.

On the "up to 8Mbps service", the expected difference between a sync-time 9dB and 6dB is 500kbps-750kbps. On ADSL2+ it can be as much as 1200kbps. It all depends on the line itself, and many factors.

Re the expected speed, see this graph. Given optimised wiring, which you seem to have, I would expect to be near the maximum for the attenuation. Given that the graph is from real-world reports, even the average figure is poor, and must reflect something not as it should be.

Thinking about that, a drop doesn't need to be caused by something on your premises. It could be a neighbour, or cross-talk noise from other lines on your cabinet, and so on. I lost 200kbps when the chap across the road went from dialup to broadband, and another 500kbps when my e-side pair was swapped due to complete failure.

I'd settle for what you got. You might get another 0.75 Meg but you've got no inkling how your line is wired at t'other end.
