Aol said my routers won't work

[link to this post]

I had a wired router bt voyager 190 adsl and a belkin router wireless both worked fine and then
Yesterday they both suddenly wouldn't connect to aol no adsl light! I contacted aol
Tech support they said my routers will no longer work with aol, both have been fine for last 3 years
Is this correct? Has I have had to order a new router from them
Cheers I'm a new member

The BT Voyager 190 is more 'helpful' than you may be aware of.

Power off the Voyager 190 and your PC.
Disconnect the Voyager 190 from the telephone line.
Connect your PC directly (no intermediate routers) to the Voyager with an Ethernet cable.
Power on your PC and the Voyager 190.
Using your preferred web browser, connect to http://192.168.0.1/ (no login details required).
The web page will automatically update every 20 seconds (or less) and show your connection/line stats, but you're line is not currently connected.
Connect the Voyager 190 to the telephone line.

Post the line stats.

The 190 is ADSL2+ capable so it should be fine.
Full specs can be found here.

I did the test on the bt router like you said it didnt come up with any figures
It said "BBLINEDOWN" so is this a line fault with bt and nothing to do with aol
Or the routers??

It is possible there is a fault with the line, tried taking the routers to another property that runs ADSL2+ and see if you get an ADSL light

Are you saying you have ordered a new router from them? How much did they charge?

Well it sounds unlikely, but at least they didn't rip you off with a silly price. Let us know how it goes.

Also nothing to do with BT if the telephone is working. The broadband not working is something for AOL to resolve, now they may dispatch a BT/Openreach engineer to your property, but that is for AOL to arrange NOT YOU.

Update on events! I received new router today from aol, fixed it up and still no
Adsl Internet light! So phoned bt and they did a line check said it was fine, so phoned aol
After lots of messing about got them to give me a call back! When they phoned back they did another check on the line and apparently there is a fault outside my house and it should be resolved in 72 hrs!!
What the hell that first idiot on aol was talking bout when he said my routers no longer will work on aol, it seems it's a line fault not routers!!!
Will see what happens in next few days

See and get a refund for the new router unless you want another spare one.

Think I'll keep the new router! Just hope it's sorted
Like they said, still was rubbish advice from the first idiot
All he seemed to be bothered in was selling me another router and renewing my contract
Still think I'm gonna complain even if it's resolved!!!

You should have been automatically sent a new router free if they said your current AOL-specific router no longer works.

Did they force you into renewing your contact with a new term? If so, that is misrepresentation and you can repudiate it.

Basically the first Indian operator said that my belkin router and bt 190 were no longer
Supported by aol,so couldn't help with the problem,he said I would have to have new aol
Router,to get that I had to renew contract!
It seems it's not even a router problem, it's theirs outside my property!!! He did nothing to try and fix
The problem
So therefore when the problem is solved I will be putting in a complaint to aol

Dunno bout aol more like aohell!
Cheers for your comments
Will post outcome!!

You might as well leave AOL for TalkTalk, which is AOL's parent company. Same price, 40GB data allowance instead of 10GB, 6 months free and a brand new router.

Depends upon whether OP still has phone line with BT and wants to keep it that way.

TT don't do that; AOL does.
