I received my MAC key from PlusNet on 23.09.13 and promptly gave it to my new ISP, which was to be ICUK.
ICUK have notified me twice that the migration has failed for some reason.
Leslie Costar of ICUK recommended that I check with my line rental provider (Post Office) whether there are any open orders on my line.
I contacted the Post Office 'support' 2 days ago but they haven't got back to me yet.
Has anyone got any suggestions on this problem (preferably legal!)
I haven't given my MAC to anybuddy else except from ICUK.

Three days now and STILL no reply from the Post Office 'support'
I phoned their 0845 number yesterday but - gave up after hanging on for one hour.
What a joke hey! - I can't migrate to ICUK because of them for gawd knows what reason.
I would cancel my years line rental con-tract if I could - but lose £120?
Bar stewards!

I'm surprised ICUK can't get the actual reason from Openreach.

Well, so am I actually, I can't even log into the pobroadband site now but, worse things happen at sea (I hear) and I shall be sending out a couple of those things we used to write, letters I believe they were called

Why do you want to leave PlusNet anyway?

Time to move on, been with PlusNet for, um, 4 or 5 years now, been with many ISP's o'er the last 12 years.
Zen was/is the best - AOL was the ... ?
It's also a way to start anew - without any junk mail YEEHAW!
I changed my land line number sometime ago and haven't had a single cold call since

That is an exceptionally bad reason for leaving!

That implies to me that you use an ISP email address, which I think is a bad idea, don't make the same mistake again when and if you change.

Well, there's more to it than that Kevin, my download speed has been a pathetic 1.4Mbps of late, whereas it's usually about 3 - 5 Mbps, hardly Superfast I know but, it's enough for HD YouTube and the iPlayer.
I've had 2 Openreach engineer visits and ya know, one just gets a bit fed up with it all and (in my case) takes drastic action.
I'd still recommend PlusNet to anyone though and, who knows, I may go back to them one day

Yes indeedy, I should have got my own domain name years ago!

I'm not sure why you think that changing ISP might help matters. The best they could probably do is call out the same species of Openreach engineer that you've already had.

Of course I know that my friend, but I just need to find out (the hard way) whether Plusnets traffic shaping, bottlenecks, and their fair usage policy affected my download speed in any way.

What fair usage policy?

I expect the OP is on a legacy product with rate limiting and a usage cap. That's not an FUP, I know, but could be what he is meaning.

Eh, I thought I replied to Kelly Dorset's post yesterday?
Anyway, I'm no IT ex spurt, just a silver surfer who reads too much 'stuff' on the internet.

I think it's unfair for them to put us with EE and O2 on that list when both of them specifically slow down protocols specifically at peak (based on what it says on that article..)
Seems like they don't understand how we use traffic management.

Indeed, reading through the article I cannot see how Plusnet does not qualify as "very fair."

Time for a new simpler explanation for the non-techies, especially those in the media?
|
|

We've tried, but it's tough. People just see "traffic management" and think 'Fair Usage policies' and 'throttling'.
Back to the drawing board eh?

Eh, I thought I replied to Kelly Dorset's post yesterday? It doesn't appear so . As a matter of interest, and it is relevant, what PlusNet package are you on? Anyway, I'm no IT ex spurt, just a silver surfer who reads too much 'stuff' on the internet.
Such as: http://www.choose.net/media/guide/features/broadband... Maybe you haven't seen this PlusNet article, which the site you link to doesn't seem to have done .
The same prioritisation applies on "allowance" packages, which is good. Though those do have speed restrictions at times as well - your linked source accepts that such are common.

Hello me
But seriously folks ... I eventually received a reply from Post Office 'support' after five days stating they only have an order for homephone no broadband orders have been placed at all.
So I have now asked Leslie Costar at ICUK to submit my migration order to Openreach for the third time.

Hi you
I eventually received a reply from Post Office 'support' after five days stating they only have an order for homephone no broadband orders have been placed at all. There is no reason for PO to know anything about your BB. They are only your Homephone provider, for which they should have a contract, not just an order.
EDIT: Or are you now saying that you have only just ordered phone from PO at same time as BB from ICUK? In which case that could be reason for the BB order failure as the phone is not yet in place.

Sorry, I've only just seen this post but, yes indeedy, I ordered the phone line rental with the PO at roughly the same time as I gave my MAC to ICUK, hence the open order.
Roberto Bob had the right idea further up the thread when he stated:
