hi hoping someone can help me we are experiencing extremely slow connection during peak times ie between 4pm and midnight and sometimes beyond midnight. I've spoken to sky our provider with no great outcome they are putting it down to mearly traffic. A search on our postcode states 7/8 mb connection possible and we are 1.3km from exchange. but during peak time we have seen speeds as low as 0.75mb.
I need advice as to what I can do to improve our speeds and if another provider could do that and if so who do you recommend to do this. the maximum speed available from exchange is only 8mb. thank you for reading this and hope someone can help

Are you on Sky Connect or their llu based service?

Do you know if you are on Sky LLU, or Sky Connect? (Telling us the exchange might make the answer obvious to us). If it's Sky Connect, that has a poor reputation and changing provider would almost certainly improve the peak time speeds.
What speed do you get when things are good?

we can only have the connect package where and and all piggy backed off bt. We currently paid £17 a month for the worse connection I've ever had.

outside the peak times I've stated we can get between 6-7 mb

Is that £17 for the broadband, and the line is on top of that? Have you any idea how much download allowance you need?

We could do with knowing the exchange as well, so we can see if there is any info about that being congested at busy times. Sky Connect is known to be dodgy, as I said, but it may not be their fault this time.

Hmmm. That's quite good pricing. A move could be slightly more expensive, with no guarantee of improvement for a while, as the "green light" system on exchanges like yours is a bit suspect at the moment. I'm enquiring elsewhere.

Exchange may not be the issue but tradition of Sky buying too low capacity for the Connect users is well known.
A change to BT Total, Plusnet and other suggestions welcome.
Avoid TalkTalk as same issue where they dont have llu

I know a number of the Dorchester exchanges are oddly routed (sub exchanges that should get 21CN, but don't as there not really Dorchester), however, Piddletrenthide is not one that is known to have capacity issues or facing the above problem (shows fine on our latest information).
I would agree with Andrew here, sounds like Sky lacking capacity on their non-LLU products.
