Hello, this is my first post on the forum so bear with me.
Moved to a new house in Canterbury, Kent looked around and found that Bt was the fastest in my area, we got the product and it was fine and easy no troubles. Did a speedtest like you do and found out i was only getting 40mb down and 10mb up, because it was a new connection i thought nothing of it and waited a few days for the line to even out and did another test and found the result to be the same, called BT and they sent Openreach out looked at my line and there was nothing wrong with it, whilst having a chat to the engineer he said i was on a 55mb circuit and that i could never actually get 75mb like i was promised when i bought the product.
So i bought BT infinity 2 and i could only really get BT infinity 1 speeds.... What shall i do?
Thanks

Please could you put your phone number into this checker, then copy and paste the A and B VDSL lines .

Now run this and see what your current Upstream BRAS rate is https://windows.mouselike.org/be/index.asp?DoAction=...
The current Downstream BRAS rate is: 42.53 Mbps
The current Upstream BRAS rate is: 20 Mbps
Can you post theconnection stats from your router?
The fact the upstream profile is 20meg proves you're on the 80/20 service.
My router is currently syncing at a downstream speed of 44.33 mbps and an Upstream sync speed of 11.89Mbps

Something is probably introducing a load of noise into your phone line. Are you plugged into the master socket?
(Edit - I see others have overtaken me).
That upstream BRAS rate (IP Profile) proves you are on the 76/19 BT product. (Openreach 80/20). So your engineer may understand the electronics, he doesn't understand the products.
The downstream 42.53Mbps IP Profile tells us you are connected at around 44Mbps. BatBoy will be better at telling you how to get line stats out of your Home Hub.
What we do know is that there is definitely something not right.
Is the Home Hub connected to the master socket, or at one of the extensions. Are the sockets normal BT type, or fancy nice-looking MK units or similar?

Yes i am plugged in to the master socket and i forgot to say that the Bt engineer put a new Faceplate on my master socket.
Do you have any phone extensions in other rooms?
Nope its connected to the only one in the house.
Then simply, you need an engineer visit.
Is there any chance you could upload a photograph of that master and faceplate somewhere and give us a link to it . I ask that because Openreach are in the process of introducing new types (NTE5C) instead of the NTE5As we have been getting for years.

Nope its connected to the only one in the house. New house to you, or a new build house?

New house to me and here is the FacePlate
Sorry it's a bit blurred. Does it say Mk2 or Mk3?
Its a Mk3 BatBoy
So you have no phone connected. Do you have a corded phone so you can plug in and do the quiet line test?
Is your modem the new BT Smart Hub or is it a Homehub5?
The Router is the BT Smart Hub and i am currently waiting for my phone to arrive.
Sorry, I don't currently know how to get the line stats out of that.
Are you using power line adapters?
Ok no worries thanks, and no power line adapters.

VDSL Range A (Clean) 75.2 58 20 18.9
VDSL Range B (Impacted) 58.2 30 20 8.5 When you did this check, the data should have said which exchange you're on and which cabinet number.
I would like to know the cabinet manufacturer to see if you're eligible for G.INP or not.
Huawei, you are. ECI you're not.
The procedure to look it up is here: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/cabinet-lookup.htm

My exchange is Canterbury and cabinet 20
Unlucky - ECI. No G.INP for you (at the moment anyway).
I don't think G.INP would do much go sort this out in fact. A pity we can't get to the stats. Do we know the HH5 method doesn't work?

You can get connection stats and noise margin from the HH6 if that's what you're after.
It's in advanced settings > technical log.

What no one has mentioned (people are hooked on the internal wiring being an issue) is that the checker range is 30 Mbps to 75 Mbps, so poster is nicely mid range and no legal requirement on Openreach to hit any one of the figures in the range.
It is entirely possible the line sync in the 40 Mbps range is simply down to take-up and cross talk in the area, i.e. VDSL2 is popular

That's too much of a simplification. There are 2 ranges, one for a clean line, one for an impacted line. Currently the line is in the impacted range. An engineer visit is required to discover why.
The first engineer had a stab at the reason but was absolutely incorrect, laughably so.
While a simplification, it needs to be highlighted to the poster that getting another engineer out does not ensure any guarantees of an uplift and this may well just be cross talk or the checker being over optimistic (don't take the Openreach figures as gospel)

It could be problems with the new Smart hub. I've seen reports that it has issues.
We need to stop bashing the smart hub. Yes it has a couple of issues but certainly can achieve a full sync on a good line. By no means would it shave off 30Mbps.
There were a few faulty ones but the stats here are not characteristic of that particular fault.
I'm aware of reports of a fault where is refuses to go above 10mbps upstream, which seems similar if not exactly the same. Are you?
