I am with BT Infinity & my contract ends 3 December - in 4 days time.
I am looking to move to PlusNet but their offers end today - 29 November
As I cannot possibly have moved by 3rd December am I safe to order PlusNet today without incurring BT cancellation fees or is the critical cancellation charge date when I apply to move?

As BT services would be stopped after the contract end date, there should be no charge.

Isn't it about time you can specify a transfer date or at least say after a particular date?

In general you can, but I think the notification still goes through immediately. The OP knows the date will be beyond the contract end.

There didn't seem to be the facility to specify a date on my recent transfer to Sky. Or did you just mean BT?

Quite a few (used to?) offer a choice of three when you submitted a MAC in those days. It was normally a waste of time, as what it seemed to be was a selection of Openreach slots available that day (of order) in that area as of start of business. Of course by the time any order got through to OR the chosen slot was no longer open. Causing end user aggravation and annoyance with the ISP.
Perhaps it's been dropped and can only be done with a telephone order or a house move, rather than an online order. I'm sure I've seen a few people having chosen their migration date.

As usual it's the customer that suffers.
A transfer should be a simple no hassle thing, not something you question if you done the right thing!

So telling a new provider you want to switch is a hassle?
When I switched from BT to Sky. I filled in the online form and that was it.... Apart for plugging in the router on change over day. Hardly had work.
There is a risk in everything you do.

So telling a new provider you want to switch is a hassle?
The hassle arises if the ISP doesn't provide a choice of transfer date, if your contract is only just expiring. In my case I was told my contract expires 6/12 and that I was to be charged for early exit because my new ISP had chosen a transfer date of 6/12.

Expires 06/12 and transfers 06/12?
Where is the issue then?
How much early exit could they charge? One day..... If they did simply raise a complaint.
Or the other option is to wait till the end of contract and then move....
No matter what when you move there is always a better cashback option or price point/promise

My point exactly.

I think they charg by the month.
Or the other option is to wait till the end of contract and then move....
That way you go into anotherbmonth and are charged at the out-of-offer price!
No matter what when you move there is always a better cashback option or price point/promise
True, but sometimes it is not all about the best deal money-wise. I would have stayed with Plusnet if they had bothered to respond to my request for a deal.
