Knackered Old Street Cabinet Open to the Elements

[link to this post]

https://ibb.co/sH0SxB2 CR0 2WE

The cover has been off this street cabinet for some time. Would the elements getting in have an impact? Could it cause lines to fail/broadband rates to be affected?

The broadband speeds here are already horrendous 12mb/800kb. No other options.

How do you report it without wasting half your life on a phone to some fking company that does not give the slightest [censored]?

Has worked for me twice, with no hassle. They just need to know the position as closely as possible.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

Try tweeting the Openreach twitter account they usually reply promptly to others who report open cabinets (usually to say its not Openreach but Virgin Media cabinets!)

As others have said get it reported to Openreach as soon as you can.

I wouldn't want to speculate about how the weather could affect lines that pass through those Krone strips, I would be more worried about vandalism to be honest.

Perhaps if it was vandalised and completely destroyed, it might prompt BT to put something suitable for a 20CN let alone 21CN......

Other than the door being off there is nothing wrong with it, you have Krone strips which is better than millions of Jelly crimps that a lot of cabs have in them. They could replace your cab with a brand new one but that won't make any difference to your broadband speed. Distance from the exchange to your property will be the major factor if you are on ADSL not the cab and from the cab to your property if on VDSL

You could find out what cabinet it is and take a photo of it and send them in a DM to @OpenreachHelp and give them the full information.

I do it all the time if I am out and about and see them, they are very grateful and normally they send out the engineers quick depending on the state of the issue.

I reported a cover off a junction box at the top of a pole down my road, I sent a DM with the Exchange Name, DP number on the pole along with the road name with rough location and also attached a couple of photos of the issue.

The next day it was all resolved.

The don't seem able to identify the cabinet in the various search tools, is that because sky is my provider?

Also my postcode is verified by royal Mail website but no one else bothers to update their postcode DBs such as BT.

The cabinet should have a stencilled or painted number on one of the doors or the side or both. It should be two or three digits.

Croydon 58 outside Emerald House. Have you reported it Openreach in any way?

Hi Zarjaz, gave up trusting signatures as people don't keep them up to date so removed from my view via settings, I assumed (maybe wrongly) they were via the Openreach network because of the broadband speed quoted (12 Mb).

Never quite get that. You sent some photos presumably from your smart phone, so why not send a precise location using the phone's GNSS?

It's actually better if you have the actual equipment ID (exchange/pcp/dp) as these are stored across openreach systems.
Of course with precise location info the same can be found.

Two or three digits ?

What about cabinets 1 to 9 on an exchange Bob, that would be 1 digit. wink

Actually my signature is bang up to date I'm proud (surprised) to say.

Virgin Media is provider and my home, postcode above relating to the issue is my work residence.

Because it if you don't do it at that exact moment, then you no longer have that information. Photo takes 2 seconds, getting an accurate GPS point in a city takes significantly longer

Well they were refering to the date you last did a speed test, so they were unsure if you were still with Virgin.

Speed test results in sigs are utterly pointless anyway. Just a waste of scrolling space.
