Intermittent telephone line fault

[link to this post]

Hello, whilst this isn't a current fault, I previously had an issue where the telephone line would intermittently drop out and then return to normal again, this took the ADSL service down with it. What should be done, should this be reported to the telephone service provider as a phone fault or the ISP as a Broadband fault?

As it is affecting the phone line as well it is usually better to log it as a phone fault - but as it is intermittent the risk is that Openreach will turn up find no fault and charge for the visit.

Yes that is true, funnily enough for that reason I have actually spoken to an Openreach engineer who recommended logging it as a broadband fault, therefore resulting in a "Broadband Engineer" aka an SFI being sent out.

It's a telephone fault so log as an intermittent telephone fault but stress that it is intermittent.

Our fault was linked to rainy days and it transpired our connection in the cabinet was near the bottom so was getting damp somehow.

Was Eclipse Home Option 1, VM 2Mb & O2 Standard
Now Utility Warehouse (up to 16mbps) via Talk Talk

I had one related to wet weather, took 5 visits before an engineer came when it was raining. He traced it to be in a duct under a road and as that would take weeks to get permission he swapped us to alternative line.

No, the connection is directly from the BT pole to the roof, and then from there to the master socket via an external dropwire.

We had a connection like that and it was the box on the pole not sealed and it allowed water in causing problems.
Box replace and sealed up and no problems afterwards.
