New ISP

[link to this post]

Hi, I am looking for a new ISP. I am currently with TalkTalk residential 80/20.

I have been looking at TalkTalk Business for the similar deal I am currently on. Has anyone here had issues with TalkTalk Business taking over a TalkTalk residential connection without any issues or downtime?

I have also had a look at the offers on here and found Sky at £25.00 per month. When clicking and going through to Sky’s website it is coming up at £27.00 – is there a reason for this? or the deal on here has ended.

I have also tried Uno Broadband – but they for some reason cannot take over the line after speaking to their sales people on the phone yesterday. I know the line may need to be converted over? I did speak to someone on the online chat about a week ago who mentioned this. I may have been speaking to Matt at the time as sales were closed.

Any other suggestions on a good ISP?

Thanks for any help.

Sky's prices can vary depending on what flavour* of exchange you are connected to. Though that might not be the cause of that particular price difference.

* basically if they have their own network connectivity to the exchange, rather than having to rent connectivity from someone else then your broadband can be cheaper

No problems when TalkTalk Business took over my TalkTalk Residential FTTC line many moons ago.

That doesn't sound right to me. This is FTTC/VDSL2, not ADSL2+.

A Sky FTTC connection will go back to an exchange that does have direct Sky backhaul (own network connection). Don't forget that many FTTC cabinets are connected to a main head-end exchange, not the copper line exchange. I have huge doubts about Sky using non-Sky backhaul from such Openreach head-ends.

I agree, I don't think Sky have offered ADSL2+ on non LLU exchanges for a long time. Those exchanges are mostly covered by FTTC connected to a head-end exchange. They don't charge more for WLR3 either, and are transitioning to VoIP anyway.

Fair enough, I hadn’t realised all that had changed with FTTC. Last time I was looking at Sky’s pricing for a friend I think they were still stuck on ADSL.

Any reason for leaving TT? Poor connection/speed? If its working is it worth the potential hassle of changing ISP if your only going to save the cost of a pint or two of beer a month?

Are you sure you are taking Vat into consideration. TalkTalk Business prices don't include it. Add 20%.
