Exchange information up to date?

[link to this post]

I'm moving house and was checking which exchange I will be connected to to see what services are available. Based on the post code it says it'll be the Chelsea exchange:

https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/exchanges/w...

But it's been reported that the Chelsea exchange closed down and the lines were moved to South Kensington sometime in 2017/18. Here's a thread about it:

https://forums.thinkbroadband.com/bt/f/4539221-centr...

I'm asking because the South Kensington exchange is showing G.Fast as available, while Chelsea does not.

Did the Chelsea exchange not close in the end? I looked at the planning permissions and it looks like the developer is trying to repurpose the site.

Would it not be easier to use the address checker here ?

That shows the Chelsea exchange as well. I just thought the exchange had been closed down and was wondering if anyone knew anything to the contrary.

The building closed (it was a prime site located in a residential road off the Kings Road), but the exchange physically exists in South Ken.

So they moved it to the same building as the South Kensington exchange, but kept it as a separate 'conceptual' exchange?

Given they've paused the G.Fast rollout, I guess that means they won't add G.Fast to the Chelsea exchange, even though the South Kensington exchange in the same building has it?

Yes, you put it like that.

Im not sure I understand that. They could add g.fast if they were so inclined. The location of the exchange is largely irrelevant. South ken also happens to be the headend
Sorry, I see you meant. Must of had a senior moment. Not sure about g.fast. doesn't seem likely now.

I saw this post saying OpenReach has paused the rollout of G.Fast:

https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2020/06/openre...

I had assumed to add support for G.Fast they had to do something in the exchange. The South Kensington exchange is enabled for G.Fast. I had hoped if the Chelsea exchange was in the same building, it would also be enabled for G.Fast, but it looks like that's not the case.

When you say the the location of the exchange is largely irrelevant, does that mean add support for G.Fast is something that's done in the cabinets instead?

g.Fast comes to you from the cabinet, but the head end is housed in a specific exchange.

Yes, WRCHEL is long closed, as are Sloane Square, The Boltons (now a pair of mega-mansions), etc etc. The WRCHEL cables were simply extended to South Ken, with corresponding reduction in broadband speeds. FTTC is available, as is Virgin Media in most streets. FTTP is spreading South and has nearly reached the Fulham Road.
Wireless available, too. Only ADSL is a maintained service, if you're lucky, but power cuts are not common. Now back to what's happened to my Talk Talk connection in OX15 after last night's power cut.

More generally, it would be nice to have up-to-date exchange info., if anyone can recommend a source.
