what are these devices on telegraph poles

Our village is FTTC and I'm looking into a Openreach fibre community partnership to get us upgraded to FTTP

I noticed that one street at the edge of the village has these on their telegraph poles. Out of interest what are they? I had a look and I can't see that they can order any different services than I can

They are copper joints.

Not something fibre related as I hoped then!

Out of interest why would that one street have these (and a lot of thicker cable?)

I would imagine cos the poles are fed by overhead cables.

The thicker cable might mean that a larger feed cable comes there first ... a 50 or 100 pair cable.

a couple of things to think of

how many premises already have super fast ie over 30 mbps

how are you intending to fund it - if by vouchers you need to check if you are in area 3 -as i tink there are no more vouchers in area 2

there more work you do in the beginning the smoother the process

you could find your trying to driver a scheme with no community appetite and no funding avaiable - better to find that out sooner rather than later

The scheme was changed last year to include anyone under 100mb/s and we are Area 3 so we should be OK, though waiting for the new voucher details to confirm (expected around early March, possibly with the budget). There is also generous local government funding available which hopefully gets extended to the new scheme as well.

The biggest challenge so far is definitely community appetite - we can get 25-40 mb/s on FTTC here which most people seem satisfied with so I'm not sure it's going to be feasible based on some costings I've seen for other projects.

I had a desktop costing on FTTPoD from Cerberus and a couple of nearby neighbours are warm on that so that might be the route I take instead.
