How does Openreach track and locate work to find the path of an underground telephone line?

Using a cat and genny. The genny is attached the the pair in question (which has been looped/twisted up, and connected to a good earth.
The signal it generates can then be tracked by the cat, and marked up accordingly.

For faults in buried lengths, battery/earth contacts a bridge test will be run giving a measurement to fault.

Same as any metallic underground asset. Or with a trace wire
