Transfer of telephone line ownership

[link to this post]

I'm sure this has been asked before but trying to search has not flagged anything and so thought quicker to ask.

We have a single phone line at my parents house.

Landline (telephony) is registered with Provider A (Utility Warehouse) and is in my fathers name (recently deceased). The telephone number has been theirs for 60 odd years (through all the various changes) and this cannot be lost as mum will be lost without it.

Broadband is active on the line with Provider B (Plusnet) and is in my name. I set it up years ago so that when I visited I at least had some connectivity as mobile signals were poor at the time.

What I want to do is combine the two into a single account with a Provider C (as yet to be decided upon but not really important who) and have it in my name and pay the bill for my mum. This would involve transferring the existing account for the telephony from father to myself through a new provider.

Is this possible??

Or will I need to go through the change of account with UW first (provide death cert etc.) and put into my name, then once this is complete initiate the transfer to the new provider.

If I just try and initiate a migration of both into my name with new provider will this get blocked as classed as slamming?? The added complication is I'm not resident at the address but this was never a problem for the broadband billing.

Any thoughts/help greatly appreciated smile

Firstly, condolences for your loss.

I would suggest easiest option might be migrate the landline number to an independent VOIP provider … to retain the number.

Then you can cease/migrate/move to FTTP/SOGEA whatever you wish after

It doesn't matter what name is on the account with everything being gaining provider led, but it's a bonus if you can access the communication methods registered on the accounts (email, postal address, whatever).

Find a new broadband and voice provider and start the order process with them, pick the option to keep your landline and enter the phone number you use. The number will port to the new provider and the broadband will be provisioned.

Is your Plusnet connection using the same phone number/line as Utility Warehouse?

Don't forget that the PSTN is due to be switched off by the end of 2025.

I suggest that you ask A&A (Andrews and Arnold) if that they can do what I understand you to want. i.e provide an FTTC broadband connection and VOIP phone service using a phone number ported from the current service..

As Michael_Chare suggested, A&A should be able to do what you want.

Here is my experience of moving my phone line and number to A&A last year.

This is currently FTTC but once the recently wired fibre on the poles goes live I will be swapping FTTC for FTTP with A&A.

Cheers!
