Two services active on a line during migration

[link to this post]

I'm in the process of migrating from one BTW FTTC provider to another (IDnet to Zen). The switch is due to take place on Monday, but I plugged in my new router last night to get it configured up. To my surprise it's now working on the new service. Does this mean both servies are available on a line for a short period during a migration? Is it a normal thing?

Same happened to me. Although in my case it was the old service continuing beyond the start of the new one. I was away so not able to change over but retained a connection for my mail server. It's not really surprising. You're not really running two services at the same time. It's one service that for a while has two valid logins. Behind the scenes each login directs your traffic to a different ISP.

Indeed, the magic is the realm (the part after the @ in your username). It's this that defines which ISP BTWholesale will try and establish a session with. This is called session steering and allows the ISP to identify which customer is attempting to connect and direct certain customers to certain broadband gateways (e.g. north/south).

You could actually use your line to login to any BTW ISP providing that they are set up to accept your BBEU ref, which is used to identify your circuit. Most ISPs will ignore requests from BBEU references that they don't recognise/aren't responsible for.

Are you sure they're both BTW? I had the same thing happen to me, but I was using Zen backhaul.
