Sky BB telephony service interrupted; unexpected TT id

[link to this post]

I've had Sky VDSL-based broadband for a couple of months, going back to an Openreach-delivered provider after five years with Virgin fibre.

Yesterday the voice telephony service stopped working, and calls to my "landline" number are met with a "this number is unavailable" message. However, broadband works fine.

Today I thought to run a Think Broadband speed test, and noticed that TBB suddenly believes that my ISP is TalkTalk.

Is it likely that somewhere upstream, a technician has mistakenly reconnected our "Sky" line to somebody else's TalkTalk service, one which doesn't have voice telephony bundled?

Is the voice service delivered from the exchange, or is it a VOIP service (the phone plugs into a phone jack on the CP router ?

Hello DFScale,

I wonder whether you meant https://www.whatismyisp.com/, which reports:

* "TalkTalk Communications Limited" when accessed from Microsoft Edge on Windows 11
* "Google LLC" when accessed from Chrome on Windows 11
* "TalkTalk Communications Limited" when accessed from Google Chrome on an Android mobile phone

The site https://www.whatsmyip.org/ reports an IP address beginning 92.18.nnn.nnn

Hello Zarjaz,

Thanks for responding.

The telephone is plugged into a phone jack on the Sky router.

The Sky router's telephony LED is showing orange, rather than the normal green.

Sounds like your incoming line has wrongly been switch to TT causing your Sky telephone (which is configured via TR-069 protocol) to stop working. This is either a connection issue at the local cabinet or a wrong reconfiguration of the broadband port.

OK, then this 100% Sky’s issue to fix. Don’t be fobbed off with needed an engineer visit, the issue is Sky’s end of things.

Actually, it was Openreach's problem to fix, and it did need an engineering visit, completed earlier today.

My line had been mistakenly disconnected at the local cabinet from my Sky service, and reconnected to a (slower) TalkTalk service.

According to the engineer who visited today, the connection identifiers in the cabinet indicated that the line which should have been connected to TalkTalk has a sequence number exactly ten away from mine, so the person doing the provisioning job for that one on Friday clearly misread a digit.

An engineering visit to my property was strictly necessary, because he needed to verify that the labelling in the cabinet was correct before disconnecting the erroneous TalkTalk connection.

Now have Sky service (and associated VOIP) reinstated. Issue resolved.

Sky's telemetry had detected that its router was no longer reachable on the Sky network ,so had automatically booked opened the trouble ticket.

Thanks for all the information provided.
