zzoomm FTTP with own router question

[link to this post]

Hi people,

I have zzoomm fttp being installed soon.

I want to use it with my own router which is a Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Ultra, which I already have running on my current ADSL with an ADSL modem connected to its WAN port.

My Router is at 192.168.1.1 with its DHCP serving up from 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.254

I don't know if zzoomm's ONT box will be wanting to use that subnet, if that's how it works, does anyone know.

I assume even though it's only connected to the WAN port it would have to be on a different subnet, and if so then with no control of that ONT, I might have to reconfigure my router and home networking to work on something else like 192.168.10.X ??

Do NOT assume I know what I am talking about, cos I don't (!!!!), but I would know how to change these settings in my router etc if I had to.

I don't even know if the ONT from zzoomm works like that, or what its subnet would be - the paranoia is I seem to remember reading it uses 192.168.1.X but I might be imagining that.

Does anyone who has a zzoomm setup know??

Thanks!!! - It will help me get ready for switchover day.

My new Openreach ONT does not have an IP address. Neither does my Gigaclear box since it was put into bridge mode by Gigaclear.

Just to be pedantic - but it is very helpful when thinking about routers - routers [and computers in general] do not have IP addresses. It is interfaces which have IP addresses.

So the address you give above is the address of the router LAN interface. You can change this address and the DHCP to match to other addresses - but you should use an address range as given by RFC1918.

The WAN interface IP address is assigned by your ISP as part of the connection to the wider internet and normally you do not need to do anything apart from enter the right login credentials and select DHCP or PPPoE for the WAN connection. Zzoomm is slightly more complicated in that it uses CGNAT, but they seem to use the correct CGNAT address range 100.64.0.0/10. Other ISPs use IP addresses from RFC1918, [from 10.0.0.0/8], which is actually misconfiguration.

ONTs do not have IP addresses normally. They have MAC addresses and operate at layer 2, which you don't get to see as a user, Your interaction with the ONT is limited to supplying a mains socket and plugging in the ethernet cable for your router.

I am on zzoomm and use a tplink router, I have to use Dynamic IP to connects.
My DHCP sever on the router is 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.253.

I am not sure your meaning, the internal network has nothing to do with the internet.
