ADSL to SOADSL migration

[link to this post]

Hi there,
Does anybody know if this is an automated process with no engineer visit to the exchange like FTTC to SOGEA?
Been searching the Internet for a definitive answer but have not found any information.

I strongly suspect it will be automated. Just cease the voice equipment remotely. Recover the jumpers as and when.

Received a letter just the other day ..

Sky are nagging people to switch to SoGEA, I placed an order online, which pretty much looked like I was ordering the same product again, which is kind of true (Superfast 80 to Superfast 80).

They put a standard two week "activation" on it, which is most likely more administrative than technical/physical.

Oliver.

Simpler still if you have voice from Sky. It’s all theirs , so can be switched off by them with ease .

Yeah. They sent a "conversion kit" which consists of two router to phone cables, BS6312 & RJ11.

In this case I'll remove the existing microfilter and put the BS6312 straight into the wall from the router.

My ISP are too but i moved to FTTP anyway.

Is there a reason you have to place the order yourself? I can imagine the not so tech savvy wont understand SoGEA and why they have to "migrate" to a new product. Why cant they just do it automatically and tell people their phone service will be switched off on x date. Its going to be anyway come Jan 27

It's not my line. They were asked if they were ok with the SoGEA switch so they asked my advice, after which I placed the order via the website rather than ringing back.

True, they actually thought the call was about FTTP, when that isn't even available at their location.

They still have to ask the standard 2 questions I think - do you have a medical alert system connected to the line and do you have the ability to make calls in a power cut. But yeah, come final switch off I suppose they won't ask anymore.

The email my ISP sent basically said the move to SOGEA (if you dont want or cant get FTTP) is mandatory and if the customer doesn't respond to the email confirming the move, they risk losing their connection.

Was worded more politely than that but that was the gist of it.

Maybe its a contractual/legal thing that they have to ask but i can imagine it will create more questions than answers for some
