New home FTTP help

Hi hoping someone can help me out here.

Moving into a new property in August and the only fibre availability is a line with a 38mbps speed. Taking a look at neighboring properties and both the house next door and opposite have a FTTP connection. OR checker says they are planning to build but seems like everyone around already has it, has anyone experienced this before and have any advice on how to get this checked?

This is from the BT wholesale availability line checker!

Have you asked the neighbours? They might not have fibre from Openreach.

I haven't yet but its showing as FTTP available on the BT wholesale availability line checker for their properties. Will reach out

If they have Openreach FTTP, there should be a message like "ONT exists with active service" under the checker results.

Are they immediate neighbours, i.e. a terrace or semi detached houses, or are we talking about neighbours half smile away down the country lane?
What does the openreach site say is available for your addres

Neighbour next door - detached but directly next door has:

Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG partial Direct In Ground.

ONT exists with active service. No spare ports are available. A new ONT may be ordered.

Property opposite has:

Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential OH Feed potential Line of sight problems.

FTTP is available and a new ONT may be ordered.

Neighbour on the other side has:

Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential OH Feed with no anticipated issues.

My new property:

FTTP is not available.

Is this common?

Try the enquiry form, in the box "Please tell us what your fibre broadband enquiry is about: " choose the option from the drop down list that says "I cannot get fibre but my neighbours can".

Try this Ofcom checker https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/broadband-coverage
This will give an indicator if there are any availability for other Alternative FTTP Networks.

If you are getting a line of only 38Mbps then it means you've got only FTTC from Openreach. But the Ofcom checker will show what's the max speed under Ultrafast and that will give an idea, which Altnet provider has it listed.

Of-course, it may not be 100% reliable as sometimes it could show availability for a network that isn't really available. But it is more reliable than bidb.uk.

If it shows something else like Virgin Media, nexfibre, Hyperoptic, Gigaclear, etc then you simply then check on the official website of these providers and enter your postcode and address there to see if it shows up as available.

JSD_31, Try this. simply state what you have said here without flaff and politely, you may need to have them ask one of their colleges.

we have seen cases with one side has dig and no fttp and other side with overhead cabling and has fttp. its a bit of deranged solution but sadly it does exist.
