Delay on site request

[link to this post]

I have a strange problem. It seems to take 10 seconds for each domain request, but after I have the site up it is fine. This has only happend since I moved to Nildram from Zen but also happens when I use my brothers BT connection when I visit him. So why is there a delay like this? I didn't get it with Plus.net or Zen.

I assume there is something different about nildram and BT that is causing this on my Mac?

Is it a DNS problem?

Maybe try a different pair of servers to see if it's any different.

You can use OpenDNS.

Sorry I don't know how that would do anything. I am referring to all sites I access, the inital page load has a 10 second delay per domain. So for example lets say I go to bbc.co.uk and they also have google adwords for example then I have to wait 10 seconds for a response from bbc and then 10 seconds for a response from the google server so for a page with content from two different domains that is 20 seconds waiting.

How can I try different servers? I don;t understand.

Everytime you load a url your computer has to go to a DNS server to find out what the IP is. Once it has done it once the IP is stored in memory. It sounds like your DNS requests/answers are taking 10 secs each. Go to a command prompt and type nslookup bbc.co.uk and see if it takes about 10 secs.
If you type ipconfig /all in the command prompt it will tell you the DNS servers it is using. Double check they belong to your ISP, it could be they are still your old ISPs or something.

Thank you guys, yes I did have Zens DNS servers and not nildrams, on Windows it seems to update itself but not on my mac I had to do it manually. Now I have changed that all is OK except for getting just under 1MB instead of 1.5MB that I got with Zen and plus.net. Looks like I will be requesting my MAC key for the fourth time this year!
