Troubleshooting

[link to this post]

Our router is telling us that we are recieving 1mbps broadband but for some reason, our down speed (found on this websites speed tester) is only 0.5mbps.

Our DSL cable is extra thin and is about 20metres long. Can this be the problem?

Probably not.

Which speed testers have you used? Also have you tried at 'off peak' periods?

We have used ADSLGuide and BT speedtesters and i have tried at nearly midnight and even then, it only said 0.5.

Who is your ISP, what is your product etc, are you sure you should be getting close to 1Mbps?

We are with Pipex and signed up for a 1mbps service. However, they did say when we signed up that we would not be on 1mbps immediately and they wouldn't charge us til we were and we haven't been charged yet. But this was over 6months ago.

We have a Linksys WAG54GS.

Maybe it's worth talking to Pipex first, it could be that it's capped at their end, so making any changes your end would be a waste of time
