Upload speed

[link to this post]

Hi I have recently gone up to MAX (from a 512 connection)

The upload speed shows 448 whereas the download has gone up to 3008.

I have a BT 2091 router and line stats are

Download: attenuation 61dB snr 7dB

Upload: attenuation 29dB snr 25dB

These stats are steady over last few weeks

Should my upload speed be higher?

I have BT Broadband option 3

Thanks

Kev

No, 448kbps is the correct upload speed for an ADSLmax 'home' connection.
Faster upload speeds are available (832kbps for ADSLmax 'office' connections, for example).

Only if you're on an 'office' product.
I've noticed other posters commenting BT will not provide an 'office' product on a domestic/home 'phone line. Other ISPs will, so if you need the extra upload speed, you'll have to see out your BT contract and migrate to another ISP.

Also I thought that BT was one of those ISP's (along with AOL) who wouldn't put people on Max with a long line and the OP's line is very long with 61 dB attenuation !?

That's also my understanding, I guess the OP must have slipped through, or got away with it if he was already a BT customer.

There's quite a lot of people who seem to get away with it now.

A friend of mine has recently been put on Max (with AOL) and he has an attenuation of 61.5 dB !!!

Myr Anoymours again aka Kev

I was on 512 for ages and had terrible disconnections. BT eventually sorted me out (seems there was an 'earth leakage between the green cabinet and my house) Line has been steady for 3 months (61 dB attenuation BUT 27dB SNR).

So why should BT not enable me on MAX? I am still on the 10 day fix period and now have 3040 and SNR is 7dB ...AND STEADY.

Seems that BT did me a good job on fixing the line. Before they fixed it I had 20dB and drops every half hour. They fixed it to 25dB and NO drops. Attenuation has always been 61dB. They installed an RF filter and a filtered faceplate. I have NO internal wiring.

BT checker has always said 2meg so I am pleased with the results so far.

It isn't down to BT Wholesale as it is down to the ISP.

It is a well known fact that some ISP's (AOL, BT Retail and Pipex) don't allow you to have Max on a line where you couldn't receive a fixed speed of 2 Mb (i.e. attenuation of 43 dB or less).

I know as I was in this position with AOL back in May but things might have changed now - I don't know?
